The Three-Fold Law

dianic_wicca dianic_wicca

The Three-Fold Law is the belief and principle on which magick is used. This law relates to the use of power and energy, for when used, power is returned to the sender, three times the level it was sent out. Used in relation with the ethos, “Do what thy wilt, though it harm none” (as stated in the Wiccan Rede), witches take great care when preparing and casting spells that no harm should come to others because of it. The nature of this three-fold return can perhaps be better understood when considering the cause and effect principle of a spell. Let’s take an example – someone comes to you in distress with a problem, you help by sending out positive energy and the problem is successfully resolved. This automatically makes you feel good about yourself and influences your thoughts; thus your state of consciousness is altered. In turn your thoughts stir the emotions, which has a physical effect in the body by causing glandular secretions to enter into the blood stream. The resulting state of mind and body lifts your spirit, which is what makes you feel good. Thus with the act of a single good deed, you have been effected three times, in mind, body, and spirit. This then is your three-fold response to the return of positive energy. Now consider your response had you sent out negative energy or something went drastically wrong? The Four Powers of the Magus

magus magus

The Four Powers of the Magus are the personal attributes traditionally necessary and required for the successful use and practice of magick. These are – To Know, To Dare, To Will, and To Be Silent. Without these four attributes combined, the individual will never be successful in magick. The reasoning is quite simple; none of the attributes mentioned are enough in themselves, as all four attributes must be present to balance each other out. For instance: To Know – Knowledge is no good, without the will and audacity to see magick done. To Dare – Audacity is no good, without the knowledge and will to see magick done. To Will – Will power is no good, without the knowledge and audacity to see magick done. To Be Silent – What good are the above, without the discretion to remain silent until the magick is done? To reveal your magick before it is done, dissipates it’s power and effectiveness. So, anyone aspiring to use magick, he/see needs a knowledge of what he/see is doing, the audacity to use it, the will power to control it, and the discretion to remain silent till the work is done. Altars and Altar cloths

Pagan Pagan

The Altar is the sacred space upon which tools are kept. Two main forms of Altars exist, round or pentagonal altars, which stand in the middle of the circle or rectangular ones, placed against walls or the far east of the circle. Both are fairly simple to make, although a pentagonal altar requires more work. Decorator tables are good, cheap altars, but can’t hold much weight. Chief among the “bonuses” of decorator tables is the fact that they either fold up or have removable legs for storage and transport. Some decorator tables are all wood instead of wood and metal, fulfilling the requirements of some traditions. To make a round altar simply, take a wooden crate and glue a round piece of plywood to it, or attach three, four or five equal length “legs” to a single piece. One modern Book of Shadows suggests five decorative posts, cut at slight angles, glued with silicone to a plate glass mirror. If you have a root worker who twists willow roots into stands and chairs, which would make a sturdier stand for a mirrored altar. Mirrored altars are fairly new, although The Sacred book of one Family Tradition has a reference to a two hundred year old one. As a practical matter, mirrored altars double your light, but they also scratch, break, and weigh a lot. They are wonderful stationary altars outside or in, but terrible if you plan to move a lot. A “T” altar is easy to make, simply glue three pieces of wood together,

Order of Life and Death

Creation myth -Native American: Blackfoot This creation myth focuses on the creation of life and death and the rules our mortal existence. There was once a time when there were but two persons in the world, Old Man and Old Woman. One time, when they were travelling about, Old Man met Old Woman, who said, “Now, let us come to an agreement of some kind; let us decide how the people shall live.” “Well,” said Old Man, ” I am to have the first say in everything.” To this Old Woman agreed, provided she had the second say. Then Old Man began, “The women are to tan the hides. When they do this, they are to rub brains on them to make them soft; they are to scrape them well with scraping tools, etc. But all this they are to do very quickly, for it will not be very hard work.” “No, I will not agree to this,” said Old Woman. “They must tan the hide in the way you say; but it must be made very hard work, and take a long time, so that the good workers may be found out.” “Well”, said Old Man, “let the people have eyes and mouths in their faces; but they shall be straight up and down.” “No,” said Old Woman, “we will not have them that way. We will have the eyes and mouth in the faces, as you say; but they shall all be set crosswise.” “Well,” said Old Man, “the people shall have ten

A personal view of Hecate

Hecate Wheel Hecate Wheel

Hecate or Hakate in my mind is one of the most important goddess and saying that very little is known of her. Even her origins are a bit of a mystery even her parentage is a mystery some say Perses and Asteria, others say Zeus and Hera or as Hesiod claims Uranus and Gaia where her parents. While other says she travelled from a distant land while some say she was not a god but the only Titan that kept their powers. It is said that Zeus held her in high esteem either through Fear or respect and she was giving dominion over the Heavens, the Earth, the Sea and the Underworld a honour that no other god or goddess had. Hecate has the control over life and death and Magicks and witchcraft basically she has control over every aspect of life and although she is a very very powerful goddess she can be very difficult to work with especial for men. Hecate demands loyalty from her followers she does have a tendency to turn men mad (can speck from personal experience) but her rewards are boundless. Hecate has many guises and is one of very few goddesses, who are in triple aspect; the image of Hecate can be a maiden, a mother or a crone although most modern depictions of her are that of the crone. For me she is more force than form a guiding light that has lead me to a greater understanding of myself and of Magicks. Hecate rule the in-between

Origins of Love–Soul Mates

Origin of love Origin of love

Whenever I think of love there is one song that always seem to explain love to me. It’s based on Plato’s Symposium. February is a month is a month when everyone has love on his or her mind. The problem is love is just being a relationship with someone. Love never comes in the packages we desire or when we want it to, love is the most surprising thing. Love is something that comes in many forms from the love we share with family and friends, the love we share with lovers to the most unexpected loves that can destroy us or improve us. Whatever type of love it is it a sacred gift a gift from the divine the ability to share ourselves completely with another person. For many years I would describe love as an emotion often discussed but rarely felt, mainly because I had not found my soul mate I had been relationships some very good but always doomed to end but that’s just life we are always searching for that perfect person. Now I can remember a friend telling me when I was about 16 never to look for love as love will only arrive when your not looking for it. I never understood that statement until I met my soul mate as I was not looking for love and did really need to be in a relationship as I had to many other things going on at the time. But without noticing I got a cupid bow in my ass

Protection for Vehicles and travelling

binding-love-spell binding-love-spell

Now this is probably one of the most used spells / rituals in my Book of Shadows. The ritual can be done quickly and last for the length of the journey or can be done slowly and with more care and is used for your own vehicle. This ritual / spell is in two parts and part two can be used alone for journeys in taxis / friends cars etc. Part one: Cast a circle around the vehicle by walking around the vehicle, if hosing the vehicle cast a circle in water (this circle will never be a strong as ritual circle or as formal so keep the idea of the circle) just try to keep the shape of the circle. Begin to wash the vehicle cleaning in your normal way just hold in your mind that you’re washing any negative energy away from the vehicle if you notice (and you will) that water is leaving the circle just visualise the negativity leaving. Once you have finished washing the vehicle you can strengthen the circle and call the elements simply – I call east and the wind to blow danger out of my path (mark on front right wheel a pentagram or element sigil) I call south and fire, burnt bright and guide danger from my path (mark on front left wheel a pentagram or element sigil) I call west and water, wash harm from my path (mark on back left wheel a pentagram or element sigil) I call north and earth, let your strength

Eostre or Ostara Not Easter

ostara ostara

As the wheel keeps turn we move towards the vernal equinox the point where day and night are equal (give or take) and our thought turn to planting new crops for the on coming harvests. ?ostre or Ostara is as the Venerable Bede said the origin of the word is actually from Eostre, a Germanic goddess of spring. Eostre is a very obscure Goddess, and uniquely Anglo-Saxon Heathen. She is not mentioned at all in the Norse corpus, and there are only fleetingly in the Old English by Bede in De Temporum Rationale. Some scholars have even conjectured that she may not have even been a goddess but rather just the Germanic name for the celebration that took place around the time of Vernal equinox. It is must also be noted that Typically, the Celtic peoples did not celebrate Ostara as a holiday, although they were in tune with the changing of the seasons. It can be assured well as much as it can be, Eostre is Teutonic in its origin as Teutonic dawn goddess of fertility was known variously as Ostare, Ostara, Ostern, Eostra, Eostre, Eostur, Eastra, Eastur, Austron and Ausos.” Her name was derived from the ancient word for spring: “eastre.” Since we know that the wheel of the year is made up and cobbled together by Gardener I am sure sometime with a bit of humour. I feel that Gardener Choose to call vernal equinox ?ostre or Ostara, as it is very similar to Easter and in some way claiming a Christian

Halloween Not Samhain

Halloween-Kids Halloween-Kids

Pagans celebrate Samhain everyone else celebrates Halloween. But what are the differences between the two. There is one major difference between Samhain and Halloween and that is what is celebrated. Samhain celebrates the final harvest, the end of summer, the Celtic New Year, While Halloween celebrates the night before All Hallows Day now commonly called the Feast of All Saints, November 1. The name Hallowe’en is a shortening of All Hallows’ Even, or All Hallows’ Evening. All Hallows is an old term for All Saints’ Day (Hallow, from the Old English “halig”, or holy, compared with Saint, from the Latin “sanctus”, also meaning holy, or consecrated). In the original Old English, it was known as Eallra H?lgena aefen Although many of the actives of Halloween are the same as Samhain they are rooted more in Christian Ideology. Like many Christian festivals Halloween was moved close to a related pagan festival it was in 837AD, when Pope Gregory IV moved All Saints day to the 1st November. Over the years Samhain and Halloween have become inter tangled and so mixed that you can no longer see where Samhain starts and where Halloween begins. For example it would have been traditional for pagan to of carved vegetable lanterns including ones made from pumpkins but today everyone carves Jack ‘O’ Lanterns wildly accepted in common lore to of derived from the character Stingy Jack and the tale of how he conned the devil. In was in 1866 when the carved pumpkin became associated with Halloween and then with

Definition of a witch

For this course I would like to use this definition to describe a witch A witch is a person who through “belief / Will” can cause change. The Belief / Will is often called Magicks and is a process of building and releasing energies to manifest change. The use of Magicks is called witchcraft, which still has negative connotations in the 21st century but when we look at the word it really means the Craft [1] of a witch. So if we accept that witchcraft is no more than the skills of a witch we can the realise that with practice and training we can become a witch.   1 –Definition of craft [kraft, krahft]–noun · an art, trade, or occupation requiring special skill, especially manual skill: the craft of a mason · skill; dexterity: The silversmith worked with great craft. · skill or ability used for bad purposes; cunning; deceit; guile. · the members of a trade or profession collectively; a guild. –verb (used with object) · to make or manufacture (an object, objects, product, etc.) with skill and careful attention to detail.   What is a witch?
