The name Beltane means ‘fires of Bel’. The god bel is also known as Belen, Belenus, Belinus, Bellinus, Bélénos, Belennos, Belenos, Bel, Bilé: Is The Celtic god of light and healing, “Bel” means “shining one,” or in Irish Gaelic, the name “bile” translates to “sacred tree.” It is thought that the waters of Danu, the Irish All-Mother goddess, fed the oak and produced their son, The Dagda. As the Welsh Beli, he is the father of Arianrhod by Don. Patron of sheep and cattle, Bel’s festival is Beltane, one of two main Celtic fire festivals. Beltane celebrates the return of life and fertility to the world — marking the beginning of summer and the growing season. Taking place on Sunset April 30, Beltane also is sometimes referred to as “Cetsamhain” which means “opposite Samhain.” The word “Beltaine” literally means “bright” or “brilliant fire,” and refers to the bonfire lit by a presiding Druid in honour of Bile. “Some believe this deity is the equivalent of Belatucadros, the consort of Belisama, another patroness of light, fire, the forge and crafts. Belatucadros, whose name means “fair shining one” or possibly “the fair slayer,” is the god of destruction and war and transports the dead to Danu’s “divine waters.” Celtic deities often reign over seemingly contradictory themes. Both these types of Wassailing take place on 12th night ((eve 5th /) 6th or 17th of January depending on how traditional they are). Twelfth Night marked the end of a winter festival that started on All Hallows Eve — now more commonly known as Samhain / Halloween. The singing wassailing is traditional associated with wishing good health upon a household these tidings of joy and good health where rewarded with gifts of food and drink. Wassailers would announce their arrival to a property by singing “Here We Come A-Wassailing”, and this singing was an offering of peace and friendship and on greeting the householder would show that come in peace would sign “we are not daily beggars that beg from door to door but we are friendly neighbours whom you have seen before.” And begging was considered to be disgusting Wassailing became an acceptable form charity giving. Peasants would sing to the lords of the manor exchanging wishes of good will and health. The Orchard-Visiting Wassail seems to have a much deeper but more local connection and has a pagan feel. The Orchard-Visiting Wassail is a drinking and singing ritual designed to wake the apple trees used to make cider and insure they produce lots of fruit. Still practiced to day in many Orchards in Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire

Replace the words Bride and Groom below with the names of the happy couple. This ceremony was used by both my wife and myself and by my sister and her husband. They modified the text at the point below where it says “loving each other wholly and completely” to add the phrase “forsaking all others” as they are into monogamy. Either version works beautifully, I recommend the participants rewrite where necessary to form a legal contract that they can and will keep. It is easy to avoid being an oathbreaker if you only swear to that you will keep and avoid swearing to something just because the other party wants it or because it might be “expected” by the family. Notice: parts of this ritual were cribbed from the writings of others. I apologize in advance for failure to reference sources but after the fifteenth rewrite we had forgotten where we got the text and what was and what was not original to us. I doubt if there are quotes from other sources longer than paragraph length and thus should not be a copyright problem. If you see something that is yours, please send me mail and I will reference you in the future. Our thanks to those who paved the way. Ryan Hunter [PRIEST] We have come

Used as part of lesson 1 the History of witchcraft the documentary is not over sensationalised but offers a clear and concise history this beautifully crafted film is an in-depth look at the witch-hunts that swept through Europe just a few hundred years ago. False accusations and trials led to massive torture and burnings at the stake, and ultimately to the destruction of an organic way of life. The film advances the theory that widespread violence against women and the neglect of our environment today can be traced back to those times. I start remember friends that I have not seen in so long followed by trying to get in the Xmas spirit. But as Yule gets closer I start looking forward to my solstice and I am finally resolved to having some fun and facing another year ahead making new years resolutions which will be broken, warmer days, summer BBQs etc. Now on New Years Eve I don’t go out and if I do I am always home before midnight as I have a ritual where I ring the old year out and ring the new year in with bells something my grandmother did and I have found that when I don’t do it I end up moving home not sure why but it happens. After my ritual I normally sit and do some free flow meditation and write down what I see and carve it to a sort of prophecy the seal it away and look it a New year’s day one year later to see 1 how accurate I am the other to learn more about developing a skill. Now this idea about prophetic dreaming is not new and there have been some great prophets and prophetesses and great prophecies. The Problem with prophecy is the interpretation. Now over the next few year and decades we are predicted to face great change both socially and spiritually this is nothing

It was originally created as a moral booster after a crushing military defeat at the hands of the Carthaginians and lasted for one day. Saturnalia proved to be a success and that it was extended and ended up lasting a week. The Festival of Saturnalia was dedicated to Saturn Roman god of agriculture and harvest. During the Festival of saturnalia the role of master and slave would be reversed slaves would during saturnalia it was forbidden to punish slaves would be allowed to treat their masters with disrespect. Slaves would also feast sometime with their master or served by their masters. The where a number of celebrations that took place publicly and privately their would be holidays from education and gift making, lectisternium (propitiatory ceremony, consisting of a meal offered to gods and goddesses) and untying of the ropes that bound the statue of Saturn during the rest of the year. Gamble was permitted in public and even slave where allowed to join in. The Festival of Saturnalia was a well-organised festival with strict control the idea of Saturnalia was to reversed the social order without subverting it. Saturnalia would start at the Temple of Saturn with a sacrifice followed with a huge public feast. It was common to hear people calling the greeting “Io, Saturnalia!” celebrants would wear bright informal dining cloths and a brimless, felt cap, called a Pileus.
