Lilith the bible outcast
It is not uncommon to find much debate around the goddess Lilith she is a part of the Jewish mythology although still much is unknown about her. It is portrayed as Lilith was created either before or at the same time as Adam making her his equal.
Adam required Lilith his first wife to lay submissive below him (the missionary position) but as an equal Lilith refused. As an equal Lilith required and demanded the same rights and same positions.
This argument over the sexual position is said to of caused great issues for Adam as Lilith refused to lye in that position its even said that Adam spoke to god and ask him to command her to lye under him.
Now the story seems to split she either walks out of the Garden of Eden or is expelled. It is more likely she walked out as in some mythologies she is commanded many times by god to return to the garden and continue with her wifely duties but she continues to stay in her cave.
The archangel Samael was sent to command her to return but her refusal and stubbornness caused him to fall in love with her and they mated creating lilin her demon of spring children. It is said that in Jewish folklore that even after her infidelity she was still commanded to return to the garden of Eden and return to Adam which she still refused to do and as punishment she would have to face the death of 100 lilin a day. Although she is said to of taken her revenge by killing human children.
This seems unlikely as at this stage in theology as the only 2 humans where herself and Adam and is probable just used to demonise her further.
The other version is more likely after leaving the Garden of Eden and consummating her relationship with the archangel Samael and creating Lilin, Adam is lonely seeks a new mate and request one from god one that is less of a handful.
Adam is then given a new wife from god created from his rib Eve. Eve was submissive and compliant to Adams needs. This is the version I like Lilith see Eve and is disgusted at her submissive nature and what her to Adam for the person he is so she transforms in to a serpent and is the one that get Eve to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge allow Eve to come in to her full womanhood which was denied to her at Adams request.
God seeing that Eve was imbued with a sense womanhood and new inner strength send Samael to destroy Lilith but as her womanly wilds prevents him killing her God was not happy .
Eve now full of understanding trick Adam into eating the fruit causing them to be expelled from the garden. As punishment! Adam is said as penance goes through a period of celibacy. Lilith is said to still be upset with Adam comes to him at night and causes him to have dreams that cause him to ejaculate which she steals and impregnates herself and gives birth to Lilin demon of spring hearing what Lilith has done commands that 100 lilin will die each day and as her revenge she is said to send her lilin to cause women to lose the children in childbirth, or kill new born children. Boys where unprotected from lilin for 8 day and girls where unprotected for 20.
Lilith was a mother and a woman of great independence which the Jewish people where afraid of and began to demonise her and this idea that she would kill innocent children grew or at least her lilin would. Probably as a reaction to women looking up to her for her strength it was she would target women and make them baron or miscarry or create complications during birth.
Jewish people believed that when a baby laughed or smiled in its sleep, it was being entertained by Lilith, and the parents would quickly bop the infant on the nose to distract the infant from the goddess.
The Jewish people tried to eradicate the idea of Lilith but she still remains in literature if only symbolically. She was feared by them because of her sexual freedom and for Jews the idea of having sex just for pleasure was a form of abortion which help to demonise her further.
Lilith is said to be able to transform herself into animals such as owls and snakes , succubus and incubus or the night hag who sits on the chests of men and causes them to have perverse dreams so that they will ejaculate.
The idea that Lilith was a goddess originates from Hebrew, Babylonia, Sumerian text. And is found in found earliest in the Babylonian Talmud, which is generally thought to be related to a class of female demons (or daemon, daimon) Liliu. The problem is that demons (or daemon, daimon) are spiritual being and does not carry the negative connotation it only in Christian and Jewish text where the demon is used to identify fallen angels.
There are also accounts that Lilith was the monster to the first vampire but this is only a very loose link again it comes from the Jewish idea that she drank the blood of babies while in the form of an owl
It is Lilith’s strength, freedom of sexual expression and independence, the ability to be a mother, protector and stand against men’s wish that has brought back to life in Wicca and other pagan paths as a Dark Goddess on par with kali she is seen as a primal female force.
She was the one who brought knowledge to women. And she regains her original roll of mother and protector to those in childbirth and to children.
Lilith is often depicted with wings and with talons. She is also closely associated with the Goddess Inanna.
NB- archangel Samael also know as Azazel, Sammael and Samil was consider to be a warrior for god or the angel of death. Some accounts have him as one of the fallen angel
Angels are not meant to have any genitalia so the union between and angel and mortal was impossible
It was only because of the Rabbinical frenzy to drive Lilith’s worshippers away from the goddess, they made up lies such as this which contradicted her earlier functions as a protectors and helper of birthing mothers and infants.
