    Odin [Part 2 of 2]

At the dawning of time, Odin and his brothers Villi ( Will) and Ve (Sacred Enclosure ) formed the universe and created the Germanic peoples.

Odin is master of Wode – that which constitutes the "greater" or "higher passions" which govern heightened states of personal awareness and self such as agony, ecstasy and rage. The Wode is the very source of that which feeds and drives "divine madness" or "divine inspiration".

The Wode can be experienced through altered states, such as in certain trance and active meditation workings, as well as ordeal. Once stimulated, the Wode is used in shamanic functions and in bringing on the berserker’s rage. Doing so requires refined skills of control and a well-disciplined will.

Odin possesses a mighty spear, named Gungnir, which never misses its target. He also possesses the ring Draupnir, from which every ninth night eight new rings appear. Odin's eight-footed horse is known as Sleipnir (slippery hoof).

Two wolves Freki and Geri (both names mean "Greedy") serve as Odin's watchdogs, and frequently accompany him. He gives the wolves his food, for he consumes nothing but wine.

Odin is assisted by the Valkyries ("Choosers of the Slain") who work his will. The Valkyries bring the bravest warriors to the halls of the gods. Here, the warriors prepare themselves and ready against Ragnarok, the coming of the end of the world.

At the dawning of time, Odin and his brothers Villi ( Will) and Ve (Sacred Enclosure ) formed the universe and created the Germanic peoples.

Odin usually appears as a gray bearded man, tall and thin, with a dark blue cloak and an eye patch or wide-brimmed hat tilted to hide his missing eye.

During Ragnarok, on the day of the final battle, Odin is prophesied to be killed by the wolf giant Fenrir, and be succeeded by his son Baldur.

Really interesting perspective on Native American Astrology, this gives both Northern and Southern Hemisphere signs, I definately think for me, being born in the southern hemisphere Owl is a more accurate reading of my personality than Deer! Harvest Moon:

In traditional skylore, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, the 2013 autumnal equinox comes on September 22. That makes the September 18-19 full moon the Northern Hemisphere’s Harvest Moon …

No matter where you are on Earth, this full moon – and every full moon – ascends over your eastern horizon around the time of sunset. It’s always highest in the sky in the middle of the night, when the sun is below your feet. That’s because a full moon is opposite the sun. Being opposite the sun, the moon is showing us its fully lighted hemisphere, or “day” side. That’s what makes the moon look full.

Is the Harvest Moon bigger, or brighter or more colorful? The Harvest Moon is just an ordinary full moon. It isn't really bigger or brighter or more colorful than any other full moon. But you might think that it is. Why?

It’s true that, in some months, the full moon is closer to us in orbit than others and so truly appears bigger. But the distance of the full moon depends on where the moon is in its orbit. There’s no correlation between each year’s Harvest Moon and the moon’s location in orbit (the actual full moon size). It’s different every year. The 2013 Harvest Moon is pretty close to an average-sized full moon. The biggest full moon for 2013 falls in June. Nowadays, people call these close full moons a supermoon.

Still, you might think the Harvest Moon looks bigger or brighter or more orange. That’s because the Harvest Moon has such a powerful mystique. Many people look for it shortly after sunset around the time of full moon. After sunset around any full moon, the moon will always be near the horizon. It’ll just have risen. It’s the location of the moon near the horizon that causes the Harvest Moon – or any full moon – to look big and orange in color.

The exact time of fullest full moon for this month is September 19 at 11:13 UT, or 6:19 a.m. CDT in the central U.S. The night of September 18, 2013 will have a beautiful bright full-looking moon, as seen from around the globe. So will the night of September 19, 2013.

(When is the Southern Hemisphere’s Harvest Moon? For the Southern Hemisphere, the autumn equinox falls in March. So the Southern Hemisphere always has a full moon with these same characteristics – rising shortly after sunset for several nights in a row – in March or April)

Protecting Yourself and Your Home: Basic Warding

A Warding Ritual puts up a kind of permanent circle that protects you and your home from unwanted outside influences. It can also help your home feel safe, inviting, and relaxing.
Whether we like it or not we all have to deal with negativity. It can come in the form of a bad mood, heavy traffic, spilled coffee or harmful intent. Placing a few simple Wards around your home can help block the worst of it.

Determine the extent of your Wards:

This requires walking the perimeter of the space to be warded. If you are warding an entire house, you may choose to walk the exterior perimeter as opposed to the interior. If you live in a condominium or an apartment the interior perimeter of your home probably works best.
In addition to Warding your entire home, you may wish to place additional Wards on specific rooms within your home. Doing so strengthens the protection. I prefer to Ward my home first, and then Ward my office as well… and have learnt from experience that my Computer needs to be Warded as well…

    Materials Needed:
Black marker (if you want the sigil to be visible)
Decide on the type of sigil you wish to use to mark your Wards ( I like the Eye of Horus, choose a Sigil that you can easily draw)
Protection oil (how I make Protection Oil; use 1/8 Cup base oil of your choice. Add the following: 4 drops Patchouli, 3 drops Lavender, 1 drop Mugwort,1 drop Hyssop
As you blend the oils, visualize your intent, and take in the aroma. Know that this oil is sacred and magical. Label, date, and store in a cool, dark place)
I use salt water to represent Earth and Water together, and burning incense to represent Air and Fire together. You may combine Elements like this or represent them singly using different materials. I have occasionally represented Earth with sand, Air with a large feather, Fire with a candle, and Water with ice. Decide if you want to represent the Four Elements in pairs or singly, and then choose Elemental representations that work best for you.

    Cleanse your space:

Much the same way you cleanse a space before casting a circle, you will want to cleanse your home of negative and chaotic energies before you put up a protective ward.
I prefer to use sage and smoke for this, you can use scent by heating essential oils like sandalwood or peppermint, or alternatively you can use bells, just walk every room in your home while ringing a bell loudly. Other sound-based cleansings include the usage of singing bowls and clapping hands. be sure you open all the windows and doors to allow openings for negativity to flow out…
The idea is to chase away any negative or disruptive energy so that your home is fresh, clean, and calm before the ritual. Remember, you want your Wards to keep the good stuff inside and the bad stuff outside!

Choose which Elemental representation to use first, and carry it with you while you walk the entire perimeter of the space to be warded in a deosil (clockwise) direction… Also bring the protection oil and the marker…
As you walk, visualize the Element (s) forming a great barrier going up all around the space.
Pass the elements over all portals (windows, doors, fireplaces, gates, etc) twice, for extra strength and protection. On the lower Left corner of every opening into your home, draw your sigil. If you want it to be visible, use the marker First, and then dip your finger into the protection oil and trace the sigil in oil, otherwise just draw the sigil with oil.
As you pass each of the Elements over your home in turn, repeat this chant while you walk:

"By (Element) , I place this Ward :
Mighty (Element) Guard this space from all ill will
Alert me to any who enter that mean me/us harm"

If you are representing the Four Elements singly, you will need to walk your space four times, each time chanting the above incantation for the specific Element you carry. If you are representing the Elements combined in pairs, you will only walk your space twice, alternating your chant back and forth between the two elements you carry.

    Maintain your Wards:

With this ritual, you will create Living Wards that need regular maintenance to stay strong and effective. In a sense, you will need to feed and care for your ward as you would a pet. Living Wards are Powered by Energy that you must provide at regular intervals, Monthly charging is recommended.

When I am healthy and my energy levels are up, I strengthen and repair my wards with my own energy. I will sit in the center of my home with my eyes closed and my palms up, and I visualize pouring my own energy from my palms into the Wards around me.

Another way to strengthen your Wards without depleting yourself is to draw energy from an outside source and channel it into your wards. I have accomplished this by channeling energy drawn from the Earth Mother into my wards, and also from sunlight streaming through my windows. How you choose to maintain your wards is up to you, but you must understand that regular maintenance is important to keep your Wards strong and effective.
