The Lebor Gabála equates him with the father of Núada Airgetlám, suggesting some of the Milesian characterisation is based on that of the Fomóire from whom the Túatha Dé Danann are descended and with whom they originally made an alliance before taking Ireland. The picture shows the vitality of the myth by its use in Irish political propaganda. Such myths as these give people a faith about a glorious past and an equal hope for the future that glory can be achieved once more. In this sense, mythology is more powerful that reality. Indeed, more people in human history have been willing to die for dreams of heaven than for nightmares of the waking world around them. -
