Sympathetic magick
Sympathetic magic is one of the oldest forms of magick, and has been linked to Cave paintings and to the Palaeolithic era.
The Principle of Sympathetic magick is that what is created, imagined or acted out come to reality. It is widely viewed that Cave paintings are a form of Sympatric magick where the Cro-Magnon shamans, would retreat in to a cave, go into trance buy prescription drugs without prescription and paint the success of the hunt, in hunter societies they would also use dance to act out the Hunt with tribal members wearing animal skins being chased down by hunters who would then slay the beast showing the success of the coming hunt. These practices are still found in indigenous tribal cultures today.
The rain dance in Native American culture is a great example of sympatric magicks the shaman will dance rising power until till the end where water is thrown into the sky the falling water is a symbol of rain the desire outcome from the dance.
The principle being like for like sympatric magick is also a part of healing with the use of herbs and poppets. Healing herbs where colleted not based on any knowledge of chemical properties but on the likeness of the plant to the illness if you had red spots a shaman would use a plant with red spots if you had a brain fever a walnut be used due to it looking similar to the human brain. The idea being that if things look alike, act alike these things must be connected.
This being the fact with Poppets, Moppets, Effigies and Voodoo dolls the idea with these items an image of a person is created in wax, fabric, straw or grass this image does not have to look perfect like the person who the poppet is going to be used on but a connection must be made either by visualisation and naming it, or physical by using something personal that is related person a scrap of their clothing, hair, nails, their bodily fluids.
Poppets Moppets Effigies and Voodoo dolls are used to heal and harm everyone has seen the TV version of a Voodoo Priest sticking pins into a wax to cause harm but the real idea is that a Voodoo priest or any one that uses effigies would place pins at the site on the doll where the pain is and the visual image of the pins in the doll act as the connection to the pain and the removal of the pins would act as a visual connection of the pain being removed.
One of my favourite sympatric magick rituals is one I use regularly and happy to say it,s still working and it a money spell based on the rain dance.
On the new moon collect all of your small coins your need a good handful, fill your pockets with the change. Mentally think as you shake the coins that your activating coins and positively charging them like little magnets. The stand out side your front door and throw the coins into the house (making sure that any thing that could get smashed is cleared out the way) you will need to throw quite hard so the coins go everywhere and leave where they are leave the house the following day as usual and as you come in pick up the coins you can see (don’t go looking for the coins) and put them in your purse wallet or money box it does not matter if you leave the odd coin lying on the floor.
The like for like imagery of this sympatric magick is the money will keep coming into the house and that you can keep you wallet purse full also one of the nice extras to this spell is that people will walk in to your home see a coin and give it to you this give that extra dimension that money can come from other source apart from the usual.
This spell contains the 2 branches of sympatric magick Law of Similarity and the Law of Contact or Contagion as Sir James George Frazer (1854-1941) wrote in the book The Golden Bough.
The Law of Similarity states if two things are alike then you can produce an effect on one by imitating it on the other.
While the Law of Contact or Contagion states two objects once in contact will in some manner retain a link even after they have been separated.
In the last 20 to 30 years scientists have discovered that the universal laws of physics at a quantum level do follow the laws that Sir James George Frazer wrote about are actually laws that at a very fundamental level are the laws that govern the universe!
