
Mazes and labyrinths have always fascinated me ever since childhood. But what are mazes and labyrinths they are puzzles, which are solved by taking a journey. At the end of the journey through the labyrinth a reward is gained normally a symbolic freedom. The world Maze in colloquial English is generally synonymous with the word labyrinth. Although there are define differences a maze is complex many branching path with dead ends with one solution to solve the puzzle whilst a labyrinth is a single, non-branching path, which leads to the centre. Mazes and labyrinths can be constructed as lines marked in stone, brick, turf or paint / ink on the ground or can be constructed as walled pathways made from bricks, hedges corn or maize. I can remember my first time in a maze it was at the Leeds castle maze I can remember walking in all cocky thinking it would be easy to solve well I was 19 and their where moments where I did disperse that I would never get out. I will say that in the end I called out for help from one of the gardeners who kindly directed me to the centre. Now probably one of the reason that mazes and I share a connection, is this maze at Leeds castle the exit in the centre on the maze is a tunnel that takes you under the maze itself in to a grotto where I had one of my most important spiritual developments.
