The Descent of the Goddess

art hekate2 150x150 The Descent of the Goddess In ancient times, our Lord, the Horned One, was (and still is) the Consoler, the Comforter. But men know him as the dread Lord of Shadows, lonely, stern, and just.

But our Lady the Goddess would solve all mysteries, even the mystery of death; and so she journeyed to the Underworld.

The Guardian of the Portals challenged her: “Strip off thy garments, lay aside thy jewels; for naught mayest thou bring with thee into this our land”. So she laid down garments and jewels, and was bound, as all living must be who seek to enter the realms of Death, the Mighty One.

Such was her beauty that Death himself knelt, and laid his sword and crown at her feet, and kissed her feet, saying: “Blessed Be thy feet that have brought thee in these ways. Abide with me; but let me place my cold hands on thy heart.”

And she replied: “I love thee not. Why dost thou cause all things that I love, and take delight in, to fade and die?”

“Lady,” replied Death, “it is age and fate, against which I am helpless. Age causes all things to wither; but when men die at the end of time, I give them rest and peace and strength, so that they may return. But you, you are lovely. Return not, abide with me.

But she answered: “I love thee not.”

Then said Death: “An you receive not my hand on your heart, you must kneel to Death’s scourge.”

“It is fate, better so,” she said, and she knelt.

And Death scourged her tenderly. And she cried: “I know the pangs of love.”

And Death raised her, and said: “Blessed be.” And gave her the fivefold salute, saying: “Thus only may you attain to joy, and knowledge.”

And he taught her all of his mysteries, and he gave her the necklace which is the circle of rebirth. And she taught him all her mystery of the sacred cup which is the cauldron of rebirth.

They loved, and were one: for there be three great mysteries in the life of man, and magic controls them all. To fulfill love, you must return again at the same time and at the same place as the loved ones; and you must meet, and know, and remember, and love them again.

But to be reborn, you must die, and be made ready for a new body. And to die, you must be born; but without love, you may not be born.

And our Goddess ever inclineth to love, and mirth, and happiness; and guardeth and cherisheth her hidden children in life, and in death she teacheth the way to her communion; and even in this world she teacheth them the mystery of the magic Circle, which is placed between the world of men and of the gods.

Dragon Path Working

2012 02 06 09.56.23 150x150 Dragon Path Working While digging through some old paper work I came across this path working the strange thing about this pathworking is many year later I found my dragon ring the first time I saw it, it was to small to put on but the next time I saw it, it was a perfect fit.

Start by sitting or lying in a comfortable position and take three deep breaths.

Close your eyes and focus on your breath.

Feel yourself standing in the darkness behind your eyes. While in this place you can sense that there is something just in front of you.

As your eyes begin to adjust to the darkness you begin to see a shape beginning to come in to focus.

As you look you can see it is a pillar about chest height with a book on top as it comes in to full focus, the pillar starts to vibrate with a warm golden light illuminating the space around you and beckoning you towards the pillar.

You step closer so you can see the cover of the book – as you stare at the cover the letter A begins to form followed by a N and then Á with in a second the word Anáil appears followed by nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta. (Pronounced anal nathrak, uthvas bethud, do che-ol di-enve).

You say the words out loud Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta and the book opens and you read the words on the first page.

Once upon a time…

You turn the page, which reveals a picture of a beautiful landscape with a bright path leading into a wood area.

As you stare at this picture you begin to notice more and more.

The birds flying in the sky.

The small flowers in the grass.

The standing stones in the far distance.

The small creatures moving between the trees.

The grass under your feet and the smell of a campfire.

You realise that you are now inside the picture, you turn around and see a large doorway which leads back to the darkness behind your eyes.

Someone calls your name from the woods and you see something, which draws you to the path and the woods.

You walk along the path and into the wood.

The air becomes cooler and the smell of the campfire becomes stronger.

You sense something is behind you but your not afraid. You try to catch a glimpse of it but it’s to fast.

You continue walking until you come to a clearing with a very large rock, which has a small hole with what looks like the remains of a campfire.

You take a seat near the rock and as you sit on the ground you hear a sound, which is like a huge creature slowly breathing a soft rhythmic sound.

Not moving you try to work out from what direction the sound is coming from. The more you focus on the sound the more rhythmic and musical it becomes. It reminds you of a long forgotten song one that you can just put the words to.

Then suddenly it hit you and you sing out.

Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta.

The ground shakes to the sound of your voice.

Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta

The large rock moves and shakes transforming at the words – Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta

You can see the rock changing it shape into 30 foot stone grey dragon with large wings.

He turns his heads to look at you smiles and says, “old magicks from one so young”.

His breath filling the air with the smell of burning wood and sulphur.

“As requested – Breath of dragon” he says he laughs realising you are not comfortable with the smell.

“I know who has guided you here” he says in his eyes you see the room and your guide reading this script. He blinks and the image vanishes.

Do you understand the words you have spoken in this place?

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

He smiles as if to pity you.

“All magicks can cure or kill and does!

Some places exist only inside the magicks!

The right words in the right place can create, in the wrong place destroy!

Do you know what you have done? he says

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“You have created one more of my kind, a new dragon”

“Can you be nurturing?

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“Can you be loving?”

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“Can you be responsible?”

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“Place your hand on your heart and look for the name when you have found it call your dragon”

As you say the name out loud a wet nose stick in your ear and a small winged dragon climes down your arm and sits your hand.

There is a true spiritual connection between you and the dragon.

As you focus on the dragon he / she seems to melt into your hand and turns into a ring on your power finger.

A strange dragon shaped ring.

Your wonder in the ring is broken by the large dragon words.

“This little dragon is now part of you he /she will protect you and guard you in all realms, but you must return here once a month for him / her to learn and be trained as must you in the skills and magicks of the dragon.

Don’t worry I will call you in your dreams and summon you to this place. Do you agree to this?”

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

The dragon smiles and begins to transfer back into a rock.

You look at the ring and a voice deep inside you says it’s time to take me home.

You walk back down the path through the woods back to the open door.

As you step through the door you turn around to look back but all that is there is the book and the picture. You turn the next page but its blank but soon the words You are the author of this book each time you journey to the stone dragon a page of magick will be written from your knowledge. The word vanishes and you close the book, and find yourself standing behind your eyes in the darkness you focus on your breath and slowly open your eyes and return back to yourself.

Tools of the craft

Pagan 150x150 Tools of the craftMany neo pagan paths will use tools as part of their ritual work. Pagan ritual tools can be bought or made, although the majority of pagan tools will require a high degree of skill to construct.

Although no witch or pagan needs tools to perform magicks, cast spells or for ritual work it is nice to have them. But what should you buy and for what reason, below is a list of pagan and craft tools, I have separated the tools in to primary, secondary and tertiary craft tools

Primary tools of the craft

These tools are use in a majority of neo pagan paths and are common tools of the craft.

The Athame

The Athame (pronounced ah-thah-may) is a double-sided dagger with either a straight or flame shaped blade with a black handle. The blade is blunt so it does not accidentally cut someone, if Athame blade comes in contact with blood would render it useless and polluted. The Athame is never used to cut only to direct energy and is used in casting a circle.

The Athame is associated with the East and Air or South and Fire depending on which pagan path you follow. The Athame is also associated with the Male deity due to it phallic shape and is often used in conjunction with the Chalice and cauldron to symbolise the union of the god and goddess.

Besom Or Bossume

The traditional witches broom use to sweep away negativity and is used in Handfasting ceremonies witches are often depicted flying on a besom, The Besom is constructed from bundle of birch twigs, a staff of ash or oak, and a binding made from willow wands and is associated with the west and water.

Book of shadows

This is a book were possible leather bound and hand made but normally a large book containing rituals, spells, recipes, tables of correspondences and notes it possible to find that the contents may have been written in a magickal language such as runes or Theban. Their are coven Books of shadows and indervidual books of shadows

The Cauldron.

The cauldron has many uses within neo pagan paths and witchcraft; it is used for cooking, potions and food, scying, spell work. The cauldron is a three-footed pot with lid that comes in a range of sizes from tiny to mammoth size.

The cauldron is associated to the goddess and is seen a womb and a grave and places of hidden mysteries. The cauldron is associated with the west and water but can be used with any element with out conflict as the cauldron can be placed on earth or in fire filled with water when heat creates steam (air).

The censer

The censer is used to burn the incense that is often offered to the Deities, as well as being used to invoke the spirits of the Air, the Sylphs and Faery. The censer can be swinging brass burner or a few incense sticks held together and by wafting will become a censer.

The censer is a tool of the element Air.

Cup or Chalice

The Cup or Chalice is closely associated with the cauldron and is often called a bowl and is used to contain salt water, or wine for libation. The cup, chalice or bowl is normally made from brass, animal horn, crystal, glass or ceramic; some paths may have one Chalice for libation and other Cups (bowls) on an altar.

The Chalice represents the goddess and the west and water and is often used in conjunction with the Athame to symbolise the union of the goddess and goddess.

Cord Or Cingulum

The cord is used in some initiation rituals to bind the applicant; the cord is also used to mark out the circumference of a circle.

The Pentagram

The symbol of the pentagram is often worn a jewellery, engrave and printed on fabrics or ornaments and tools of the craft. The pentagram is also used as an altar plate where spells are constructed or offerings are places. The pentagram is associated with the goddess and the direction north and earth but can be associated with any element depending on the way it has be cast.

Wand

Often used as a replacement or alternative to the Athame wands can be made from wood or metal and it is possible to have more than one wand as wand can be created for specific purposes.

The wand is associated with the god and depending on tradition is either associated with the south and fire or east and air.

Secondary tools of the craft

The secondary tools are important but are not used in all pagan paths they are often associated or akin to primary tools.

Bells

The bell is often use to symbolise a beginning or completion or used as a source of vibration to help add energy to your working associated with east and air.

Candles

Although no ritual seems to be complete with out candle light candles are used in ritual as symbols or representations of the elements, the deities a person or for spell work. Candles are associated with the south and fire but the corresponding colours can be used to invoke other associations.

The Staff

Basically a staff, is a big wand and has the same associations and uses but it can also be used as a symbol of leadership.

The Sword

The Sword is a big Athame with the same association and is used in the same way and can be used as a symbol of leader ship.

Tertiary tools of the craft

The tools of the craft are not required for every ritual but no doubt every pagan and witch will have most if not all of these items.

Burin Or Bolline

A minor tool, a white hilted knife, is used for cutting herbs and any other use save magickal ritual in which the Athame is implemented. Many paths differ on the need for the Burin. Gardnerian Wicca absolutely forbids the use of the Athame for any purpose other than rituals. Seax-Wica on the other hand finds no need for it. It is a tool either abandoned or accepted by the various paths.

Crystals

Crystals use as altar decorations offerings used in spell work and healings.

Divination tools

Divination tools, such as runes, tarot cards, crystal balls used in spell work and affirmation

Herbs

Herbs used in incense as offerings in spell working and healing.

Poppets

Poppets or effigies these are either cloth or made from wax and are used in healing and spell work.

Sigils of the craft

symbols and charms and talismans used in jewellery, spell work healing and ritual works the most common Sigel is the pentagram.

Handfasting (Wedding)

handfasting 200x300 Handfasting (Wedding)The following wedding ceremony was written to provide for Pagans who must of necessity be wed in the presence of the uninitiated who are not pagan and are perhaps unaware that the bride and groom are pagan. Replace the words Bride and Groom below with the names of the happy couple. This ceremony was used by both my wife and myself and by my sister and her husband. They modified the text at the point below where it says “loving each other wholly and completely” to add the phrase “forsaking all others” as they are into monogamy. Either version works beautifully, I recommend the participants rewrite where necessary to form a legal contract that they can and will keep. It is easy to avoid being an oathbreaker if you only swear to that you will keep and avoid swearing to something just because the other party wants it or because it might be “expected” by the family. Notice: parts of this ritual were cribbed from the writings of others. I apologize in advance for failure to reference sources but after the fifteenth rewrite we had forgotten where we got the text and what was and what was not original to us. I doubt if there are quotes from other sources longer than paragraph length and thus should not be a copyright problem. If you see something that is yours, please send me mail and I will reference you in the future. Our thanks to those who paved the way.

Ryan Hunter

[PRIEST] We have come together here in celebration of the joining together of [BRIDE] and [GROOM]. There are many things to say about marriage. Much wisdom concerning the joining together of two souls has come our way through all paths of belief and from many cultures. With each union, more knowledge is gained and more wisdom gathered. Though we are unable to give all this knowledge to these two who stand before us, we can hope to leave with them the knowledge of love and its strengths and the anticipation of the wisdom that comes with time. The law of life is love unto all beings. Without love, life is nothing, without love, death has no redemption. Love is anterior to Life, posterior to Death, initial of Creation and the exponent of Earth. If we learn no more in life, let it be this.

Marriage is a bond to be entered into only after considerable thought and reflection. As with any aspect of life, it has its cycles, its ups and its downs, its trials and its triumphs. With full understanding of this, Groom and Bride have come here today to be joined as one in marriage.

Others would ask, at this time, who gives the bride in marriage, but, as a woman is not property to be bought and sold, given and taken, I ask simply if she comes of her own will and if she has her family’s blessing.

Bride, is it true that you come of your own free will and accord?

[BRIDE] Yes, it is true.

[PRIEST] With whom do you come and whose blessings accompany you.

[FATHER] She comes with me, her father, and is accompanied by all of her family’s blessings.

[PRIEST] Please join hands with your betrothed and listen to that which I am about to say.

Above you are the stars, below you are the stones, as time doth pass, remember…

Like a stone should your love be firm like a star should your love be constant. Let the powers of the mind and of the intellect guide you in your marriage, let the strength of your wills bind you together, let the power of love and desire make you happy, and the strength of your dedication make you inseparable. Be close, but not too close. Possess one another, yet be understanding. Have patience with one another, for storms will come, but they will pass quickly.

Be free in giving affection and warmth. Have no fear and let not the ways of the unenlightened give you unease, for God is with you always.

Groom, I have not the right to bind thee to Bride, only you have this right. If it be your wish, say so at this time and place your ring in her hand.

[GROOM] It is my wish.

[PRIEST] Bride, if it be your wish for Groom to be bound to you, place the ring on his finger. (Bride places ring on Groom’s left ring finger.)

Bride, I have not the right to bind thee to Groom, only you have this right. If it be your wish, say so at this time and place your ring in his hand.

[BRIDE] It is my wish.

[PRIEST] Groom, if it be your wish for Bride to be bound to you, place the ring on her finger. ( Groom places ring on Bride’s left ring finger.)

(to Groom) Repeat after me:

I, [groom (full name)], in the name of the spirit of God that resides within us all, by the life that courses within my blood and the love that resides within my heart, take thee, [bride (full name)], to my hand, my heart and my spirit, to be my chosen one. To desire thee and be desired by thee, to possess thee and be possessed by thee without sin or shame, for naught can exist in the purity of my love for thee. I promise to love thee wholly and completely without restraint, in sickness and in health, in plenty and in poverty, in life and beyond, where we shall meet, remember, and love again. I shall not seek to change thee in any way. I shall respect thee, thy beliefs, thy people and thy ways as I respect myself.

(to Bride) Repeat after me:

I, [bride (full name)], in the name of the spirit of God that resides within us all, by the life that courses within my blood, and the love that resides within my heart, take thee, [groom (full name)], to my hand, my heart, and my spirit to be my chosen one. To desire and be desired by thee, to possess thee and be possessed by thee without sin or shame, for naught can exist in the purity of my love for thee.

[PRIEST] (hands chalice to the groom, saying:) May you drink your fill from the cup of love.

(Groom holds chalice to bride while she sips then bride takes chalice and holds it to groom while he sips. The chalice is then handed back to the Priest who sets it on the table. Next the Priest takes the plate of bread, giving it to the groom. Same procedure repeated with bread, groom feeding bride and bride feeding groom.)

By the power vested in me by God and the State of Alabama, I now pronounce you husband and wife. May your love so endure that its flame remains a guiding light unto you.

Poppets

voodoodoll 2 PoppetsI have always loved poppets! I’m sure that my first experience of a poppet was from voodoo dolls! The idea of using an effigy for cursing or healing is using a form of sympathetic magick.

Now I am sure that poppets feel out of favour due to the Voodoo doll but poppets have been around for centuries. The word poppet comes from the Middle English popet, meaning a small child or doll. A word still used today as a term of endearment.

The poppet has many uses as they act as a physical representation of a absent person they become linked to the person by visualising and naming but the link can be made stronger by adding something from the person, hair (pubic, chest or armpit hair is better than head hair), nail clippings, fluids (tears, sweat, semen, urine, saliva or blood). Personal items from the subject should be given freely for good magicks or stolen for hexing and cursing.

Since poppets are neutral tools they can be used for positives as well as negatives but remember the rule of three.

Now poppets can be made from a number of substances carved root, grain or corn shafts, a fruit, paper, wax, a potato, clay, branches, or cloth stuffed with herbs although my favourite is cloth as they are easy to make and the amount of effort in creating them seem to be about just right for most spells. For simple spells then drawn on paper works and for complex healing and cursing wax or carving works best.

Now my personal feelings are that you should not use a poppet to cause harm or control another.

Before making a poppet you should decide what time of poppet you will need and gather your ingredince to make it for the purpose of these piece I will show you how to make a cloth poppet and describe a few different uses (healing, love and binding).

For basic poppet you will need

  • 2 pieces of cloth (pure natural fabric cotton, calico or silk) (coloured cloth can be used depending on purpose (red for love etc)) cut into basic human form using gingerbread man cutter to get shape.
  • Filling – cotton wool
  • Wool for hair (yellow for blond etc)
  • Coloured pens (felt-tips will do best to have a set just used for ritual / spell work)
  • Parchment paper.
  • Needle and cotton (colour white or back)*

To make the basic poppet start to stitch the poppet starting on right hand side just above where the ear would be all the way around to the just above the left ear position (thinking of the person that you what the poppet to become). Then turn poppet inside out so seams are hidden then fill with cotton wool. Write the name of the person and purpose on parchment (sigils can be used) fold and place in head. Once filled take some wool for hair and stitch closed the top.

Using felt-tips draw basic feature eyes, nose, mouth and heart (*good embroiders can stitch features in correct colours).

For healing poppets you will need to look up the illness and see what it is and what organs are affected so you can select the correct herbs and colours you may also need to have a copy of greys anatomy (not TV series) so you can draw organs in the correct positions on the poppet. If possible use personal item of person in mix. If a person is experiencing pain you will need some pins or blackthorn needles these need to be inserted into the poppets at the site of pain before poppet is named (the act of removing pins is a sympathetic of removing pain).

For love poppets create the poppet in the same way as basic poppet but increase the size of the heart and cover the eyes before naming and use herbs that invoke the feelings you wish to create. If person is very resistant to being open to love bind the poppet before naming with white ribbon.

For binding you will need a White ribbon or cord to bind the poppet.

The poppet ritual (you will need a draw sting bag large enough for your poppet)

Cast circle in normal way

Call the related deity for your purpose and make a personal dedication.

Spend some time meditating on the person you wish to work on, search your feelings insure that your doing the correct thing.

If you feel that you are doing the correct thing then build your poppet while chanting

<persons name> as I stitch I stitch to you.
as I pull the thread I pull you close
Closer and closer,
Nearer and near
and when I knot you are here.

This is repeated until you are ready to turn inside out and fill.

Place filling in cauldron or bowl including herbs mix well and as you fill chant repeating until filled.

<persons name>  as I fill <insert purpose (healing /love / binding)> to be.

Now add wool hair and stitch closed while chanting

<persons name> as I stitch I stitch to you.
as I pull the thread I pull you close
Closer and closer,
Nearer and near
and when I knot you are here.

Now add features while saying

I give you 2 eyes to see, 1 nose to breath, 1 mouth to speak one heart to feel.

(for healing add organs and pins at this stage in silence)

(for love cover eyes with ribbon)

Once you have completed the poppet you have to name and give it a purpose.

Stand up and face north (or the direction of your gods) place poppet in hand and hold over genitals and say.

I birth this poppet and name it <persons name>

The raise it to your heart and say

I birth this poppet and name it <persons name> and give it purpose

Then raise it to your lips and say

I birth this poppet and name it <persons name> and breath life to it

Then raise it above your head and say

<goddess name> and <god name> see what I have created give it your blessing and let the connection be made.

1.      Healing ritual treat poppet as the person remove the pins and visualise the pain lifting away – direct the healing into the poppet as you would if person was present – ie do a normal healing ritual.

2.      Love remove the ribbon from eyes and say you are now open to look for love and take a knife and cut heart open saying your heart is now open to love and send love energy into poppet.

3.      Binding take cord or ribbon and wrap around poppet chant a binding spell (I like the one from the craft) I wined you I bind you <insert name> so you may do no harm, harm to other or harm to yourself  (repeat 3×3)

At the end place poppet in bag and close and leave their until magick manifests.

Close ritual in normal way.

Once the magick has manifested the poppet has no more use so remove from bag and un name by doing the ritual in reverse and bury or burn poppet ritually

A Random thought to a spell

binding love spell 150x150 A Random thought to a spellMagicks cannot be taught as such! Magicks are not a subject! Or a specialty of any practice! It is a way of life, you live magick, and you breathe magick! You don’t need to call on magicks like you would call an old friend over at a party. But for those that know or feel that ritual is important, as this contains your use of it. As magicks uncontrolled can cause problems!

An example of uncontrolled magicks is in the young a dream becomes a wish, a wish becomes a spell and results happen. For very young children their dreams are small normally very small, from I want food to can i have a Barbie, so have very limited negative results, but as they grow as we all do our dreams become filled with doubt reinforcing our expectations, so very few of their dreams become wishes, so less become spells.

Some of our young are very talented in magicks and learn to use their skills, which again drop off when there are in their late teens early 20’s when life’s demands become a priority. Very few of these teens go straight to a magickal life unless they are exposed to magicks through the family or friends at a young age, they will often bounce around looking for answers to questions they do not know.

But when magicks become a part of your daily life your limits are endless magicks can open you up to endless possibilities.

For example when I thought about writing this (I was and still am having a bad day due to my illness) I was lighting a fire and my eye flicked to the black candle on the mantle and within a micro second a chant began in my head – “In this fire I do see the burning of my negativity”. Within a second I thought about carving my problems on the candle. I must make a note here I have been working on some healing spells for my condition if only to make myself better and before any one mentions personal gain they have been avoided as much as they can be.

Then as I thought well you can’t just scrape some words in to a half burn black candle that was only use to make the sconce look good and on a just lit coal fire, but also, as I thought this just Doesn’t feel right the magicks are not complete some things missing or maybe all that needed is to be open to the possibility that was all, that was required to achieve my goal!

Within a second I got the urge to write it down as I knew it needed more work, so i opened word, and began to jot my notes down, and went off to think! BTW the ritual begins the first moment you start thinking about it!!!!

Then my muse started whispering to me “share the basics” to which I thought was the basics of the chant and let others grab what they liked from our facebook page! so I started with a title “A Random thought to a spell” and i started to write… Not what I expected so in hindsight would like to have change the title but muse says NO!

Here are my original note:-

Black candle

Fire

Right what you see as negative

Throw in to fire and chant

In this fire I do see the burning of my negativity

The Words mean more

Pentagram of Solomon 150x150 The Words mean moreOne of my favourite Chants is a chant that I heard off a film many years ago called the Charm of Making, now for whatever reason has remained part of my book of shadows as a chant to raise energies till this day.

Part of the reason for the charm of making remains is because it feels authentic. The Charm of making appears in the film Excalibur and is composed in Old Irish by Michael Everson a linguist of high standing.

Although the charm has been rumoured to be an ancient Celtic Charm, or Gaelic Charm or even an ancient Welsh Druid spell none of these rumours have any historical or academic evident that cant be disrepute with ease.

If we just accept that The Charm of Making is a well crafted set of words written in Old Irish to portray magickal intent on screen does not remove the power that these words have:-

The Words – The Charm of Making

Old Irish Translation to English
Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta.Pronounced anal nathrak, uthvas bethud, do che-ol di-enve Serpent’s breath, charm of death and life, thy omen of makingMary Jones’s translates as
Breath of the serpent, spell of life, the song for the maker.OrBreath of serpent, spell of death and life, your song of making.
To here Charm of making as spoken in film see video above

Just by saying the words a few times over you can already feel the energies build (or well at least I can) as you do with any chant or Charm.

Their many be many Neo pagans who might fill that grabbing a few words off of a movie and putting in a book of shadows and using them in ritual would be wrong as they have no place being their as the made up and rubbish. But many more agree with me words only have power as long as you give them power and the more power you give them the stronger they get.

Taking words from a film script or play scripts are nothing new, Eko! Eko! Azarak! Eko! Eko! Zomelak! Come from the text from the play Le Miracle de Théophile according to Pennethorne Hughes who is a professional historian and student of witchcraft. But it does seem that we are much happier to copy spells, charms and chants down from written source the older and dustier the better than to dictate something from a visual media such as a play or film. Probably because when you watch a film you never seem to have a pen handy.

I do personally feel that not all films spells and chants can be used effectively “ you could never find a use for “Salicadoola, Menchicaboola, Bippity Boppity Boo!”” but film spells Mystical charms and chants they can be a good source of inspiration to help you develop your own spell incantations and charms and chants. They can help with timing and with just a few changes to the original text you can have a truly unique spell or chant, which is personal and has a very familiar feel and should be very effective.

Remember in life and not just in magicks “It’s not what you say! That counts; it’s how you say it! That matters!”
