Blood in the Cauldron

red blood cells 150x150 Blood in the CauldronPagans have a long history of violence not only the fact that human and animal sacrifice where used but even today in the more enlightened times human sacrifice is heard of. The last being this year (2010) in April where a human Head and torso was found in A temple of Kali near Chotomakdampur village in the western district of Birbhuma in West Bengal India

Although many Western pagans and neo pagan groups would not consider a human sacrifice as part of their rituals as they see it as being against the Goddess wishes some tribal polytheistic religions still use animal sacrifice as part of their practice.

Now we all know that during our history (at least 50,000 years of history) across the world that human sacrifices where commonplace as way of appeasing the Gods. Even many of today’s rituals and festivals are link to sacrifices which would of in times past required animals to be slaughter as a minimal offering and this would escalate to humans if crops failed repeatedly or other hardships where faced.

During this time in our history no one was excused from being sacrificed kings and leaders would be scarified to. Even Christianity has a dark past when it comes to blood scarifies the Old Testament is littered with account animal and human sacrifice.

This link with human and animal sacrifice is often glossed over and is not spoke about much today and where possible is dismissed as history of primitive cultures and has no relevance today days pagan which then brings up the debate on blood in rites and rituals.

As we all know that blood and fluids from the body can be used for very powerful magicks and at the same time we have a moral obligation if not a ethical belief that the use of such materials is against the wishes of the divine as all life is sacred to the Goddess and God although there are some goddess and gods who appreciate blood and sacrifice Kali for one (and she is not the only one by far).

This idea of using blood in ritual has always caused much debate among pagans some are completely against the idea where other say a single drop from a pinprick is as much as you need.

Personally the idea of blood in rituals or spells is something that has always baffled me I have spells that require a personal connection to be made for example a healing or cursing poppet will work much better if it contains something that belongs to the person being heal (note this can be a piece of cloth from clothing right up to part of the person themselves ie hair, nail, clippings, spit or blood (blood being the most powerful connection)) which is given freely (for cursing (dark magicks) can be taken or stolen). Or the most common blood ritual that I have taken part in, the ritual of brotherhood commonly known as blood brothers or Blood oath where two people blood is mixed making them the same family. There are even less common blood rituals that I have been involved in which many would not even consider to be a blood rite Tattooing is a blood rite I have a number of tattoos which include pentagrams, god and goddess symbols and the caduceus as these are draw on to the body blood flows and the connection is made in the same way the blood brother rite works the blood and the ink mixing becoming one.

Now I now many Wiccan’s who believe that blood use in spells and rituals is wrong and at the same time have numerous pagan style tattoos and would not even consider them to be apart of a blood rite (but there are some people that you can even argue with as they think they know best).

And I have already said that blood rites baffle me I feel that any rite where the goal is to spill blood is totally wrong but at the same time there are blood rites like blood brothers and tattoos which I have been involved in, so it seem that I am some what hypocritical of blood in rites, but the use of blood is a very tricky subject as it is not black and white. A blood oath (blood brothers etc) is a promise that is bound by ones own essence yes other bodily fluids can be used but have less of an impact, it is common or was common practice to spit on you hand before shaking hand to seal a deal.

If I was to put a limit on how much blood should be used in a ritual or spell I would have to say a single drop from a pin prick was more than sufficient as it is a symbolic gesture of your life energy that is being offered and the important word in all of that is YOUR. You should never offer someone else blood as sacrifice or be part of any ritual where blood of another is spilt in the name of the divine or even offer Your blood to the divine as an offering as this is wrong and against the divine.

A blood rite is for binding YOUR energy to another person (blood brothers) or object (personal talisman or amulet tattoo) and no more and where possible other bodily fluids should replace blood. I can see no reason why blood should be used in any rite apart from Blood Oaths (no more than a single drop is needed) and Tattooing; personal talismans can be consecrated using other bodily fluids.

Other Bodily fluids that can be used: -

Tears – to be used in talisman and amulets to prevent hurt, lose or pain

Sweat – to be used in talismans for hard work and success

Saliva – general replacement for blood and used in protection amulets

Urine – used in bottle spells and charms such as the witches bottle for protection

Semen / vaginal fluid any love charm or spell also for fertility

Menstruation blood only woman  (not for use in blood oaths as it is seen as impure) used the same way as urine

Warning

Blood buying prescription drugs online must never be consumed EVER and you should be wary of blood born diseases, which can be transmitted through contact or can become air born. Never offer blood as sacrifice even your own it to precious.

Final thoughts-

I can only think of two rites where blood is important and both these rites are life time commitments only when you are sure that you are prepared to commit to a life long connection to a person or tattoo should you agree to be involved in a blood rite as the bond you make will remain for your whole physical life and in the case of a blood oath will last for all future life too

As an Individual you will need to make up your own mind about blood in rites and rituals do not be coerced into doing something you do not feel is right morally or ethically

If you know that another will be harmed or is in danger you have an obligation to contact the local police department and inform them even if you are oath bound to say nothing.

The Charge Of The Goddess

MotherGoddessEarth 150x150 The Charge Of The GoddessWhenever ye have need of anything,

once in the month and better it be when the moon is full,

then shall ye assemble in some secret place,

and adore the spirit of me,

who am Queen of all witches.

There shall ye assemble,

ye who are fain to learn all sorcery,

yet have not won its deepest secrets;

to these will I teach all things that are as yet unknown.

And ye shall be free from slavery;

and as a sign that ye be truly free,

you shall be naked in your rites;

and ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love,

all in my praise.

For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit,

and mine also is joy on earth;

for my law is love unto all beings.

Keep pure your highest ideals;

strive ever towards them,

let nothing stop you or turn you aside.

For mine is the secret door which

opens upon the Land of Youth,

and mine is the cup of the wine of life,

and the Cauldron of Cerridwen,

which is the Holy Vessel of Immortality.

I am the gracious Goddess,

who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man.

Upon earth,

I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal;

and beyond death,

I give peace, and freedom,

and reunion with those who have gone before.

Nor do I demand sacrifice;

for behold, I am the Mother of all living,

and my love is poured out upon the Earth.

I am the beauty of the green earth,

and the white moon among the stars,

and the mystery of the waters,

and the desire of the heart of man.

Call unto thy soul, arise, and come unto me.

For I am the soul of Nature,

who gives life to the Universe.

From me all things proceed,

and unto me all things must return;

and before my face, beloved of gods and of men,

let thine innermost divine self be enfolded,

in the rapture of the infinite.

Let my worship be within the heart that rejoicest,

for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.

Therefore, let there be beauty and strength,

power and compassion, honor and humility,

mirth and reverence within you.

And thou who thinketh to seek for me,

know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not,

unless thou knoweth the mystery;

that if that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee,

thou wilt never find it without thee.

For behold, I have been with thee from the beginning;

and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

Alban Elfed Stags and Cernunnos

cern 150x150 Alban Elfed Stags and CernunnosFor the second time in the solar cycle. We stand equally between light and dark time instead of moving from darkness to light. We now move from light to dark and it is the time of the autumn Equinox, celebrated by Druids and Celtic traditions are Alban Elfed, (the light of the water in the Druid tradition).

Although most of the celebrations are related to agriculture and harvest and giving thanks to the fields. One of the major symbols depicted in Celtic charms is the stag, which is used to symbolise nature surviving through the hard times of winter. The stag is closely associated to Cernunnos horned God. Also known as the Lord of animals or the laws of wild things.

Cernunnos is often seen with horns, cross-legged in shamanic pose with the torc around his neck and in one hand and with a snake in the other. Cernunnos is depicted with seven points on his horns and often in the company of a stag. The stag is the symbol for Cernunnos or Herne, the horned gods; and is also is sometimes associated with the Green Man  and with gods of the Underworld.  Moreover, the Druid’s Horned God of Fertility, Hu Gadarn, was usually portrayed with the head of a stag.  Also, the Man in the Tree, or Derg Corra, is always accompanied by a stag. He is the Celtic guardian of knowledge.

The stag and itself symbolology, played a large part in the Celtic belief system. They were considered to be animals of the supernatural, and occasionally called faerie cattle both the stag and the deer are often considered manifestations of the male and female deities.

Hind, Eilid, represents gracefulness, subtlety and femininity.

Stag, Damh, symbolizes independence, pride and purification. He is King of the Forest, protector of its creatures and represents the Sun, warrior’s virility and fertility.

According to Celtic mythology, the role of the underworld would send a white hind or stag to guide chosen in humans into the underworld.

During the Medieval times. It was believed that the power of a deer or stag could be accessed from its skin a reason why a number of ceremonial magicians will have or make amulets or talismans made from deerskin parchment.

Even today, the symbol of the stag still holds power, and it is common to find ritual items that contain stag horn or the symbol of a stag or deer. Used in talismans and amulets and jewellery shop drugs and coat of arms.

In animal magic deer’s and Stags are used in an embodiment of particular correspondences-the deer: gracefulness, subtlety and the goddess; there’s stag: Independents, purity, power, virility, protection, and God.

Stags and deer’s have always captured our imagery and appear in ancient mythologies as well in modern day fairy tales.

Sex, sexuality and magick

SexSpells SexSpell 175x3002 Sex, sexuality and magickThe god is the symbol of male potency he is often portrayed a horned figure his symbols are the male penis erect, the woods horned animals such as the stag, the Athame and the sword. While the goddess is the symbol for the feminine mysteries and her symbols are the vagina, the cup and the cauldron.

In the Wiccan tradition groups are normally male / female, male / female with the group being head by a High Priest and Priestess, and one of the most important rituals in Wicca is the Great Rite. During this rite, which celebrates the union of the God and Goddess. The High Priest will assume the part of the God and the Priestess will assume the role of the goddess.

The God aspect in ritual is the Goddess’s consult and their union is played out in the Great Rite in some groups this ritual is acted out and in other groups the rite is a full or partial sexual act between the high priest and priestess. Sex is something pagans and Wiccan’s treat as sacred and is always done in great reverence and where the rite is physically performed a couple in a relationship that are shielded from the group or they withdraw and return after the act.

Although pagan enjoy sex … a lot! it is sacred act to us in magicks and in life and would never, rape, abuse children or have sex with animals. All pagans will agree to very basic ethical rules when it comes to sex.

  1. Sexual partners must be of legal age.
  2. Sexual partners must consent and be a willing participant.
  3. Sexual partners must be of the same species.
  4. All acts of sex are gifts from the goddess and should be enjoyed not endured.
  5. Homosexuality is normal many of the gods are gay or enjoy same sex relations.
  6. Sex should never invoke fear, pain or distress

Wiccan and pagan rituals contain a lot of sexual symbology the Athame being plunged in to a Chalice is a representation of intercourse. Wiccan’s and pagans believe that sex energy is very powerful and potent and will often use sex in spell casting. The basic idea is that the rhythm of sex raises energy to climax when it is release just like building a cone of power.

Single people, couples or groups can preform sex magicks and there are many books on the subject of sex magick. Sex magicks should only be preformed by willing and knowing partners as it one of the most sacred act a Wiccan or pagan can perform.

Cupid Eros and other Erotes

cupid 285x300 Cupid Eros and other ErotesThey’re many similarities between Roman and Greek mythology in fact the main difference is usually just the name. This is very evident in the relationship between Cupid and Eros.

Both Cupid and Eros are said to be the offspring of the Goddess of love and the God of war. Cupid parents were Venus the roman Goddess of love and Mars the Roman God of war while Eros’s parents were according to some myths where Aphrodite the Greek Goddess of love and Ares the Greek God of war. Although as with most Greek myths the lineage of any god can be question Eros is sometime seen as the primordial god of sexual love and beauty.

According to Hesiod’s Theogony, the most famous Greek creation myth, Eros sprang forth from the primordial Chaos together with Gaia, the Earth, and Tartarus, the underworld; according to Aristophanes’ play The Birds (c. 414 BC), he burgeons forth from an egg laid by Nyx (Night) conceived with Erebus (Darkness).

The major difference between Cupid and Eros is the way they are portrayed Cupid is often seen as a putto ((pl. putti) is a figure of a human baby or toddler, almost always male, often naked and having wings, found especially in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art.) while Eros is depicted as a full grown man both Buy Generic Drugs Without Prescription are almost always depicted as naked.

The symbols of both are the Bow, Arrows, Candles, Hearts, Cupids, Wings and Kisses and have dominion over love and desire. Even the myth of their love is the same including their offspring.

First seen in Apuleius’ Latin novel, The Golden Ass, The myth states that When Cupid’s mother Venus / Eros’s mother Aphrodite became jealous of the princess Psyche, who was so beloved by her subjects that they forgot to worship Venus / Aphrodite, she ordered Cupid / Eros to make Psyche fall in love with the vilest thing in the world. While Cupid / Eros was sneaking into her room to shoot Psyche with a golden arrow, he accidentally scratches himself with his own arrow and falls deeply in love with her.

Following that, Cupid / Eros visited Psyche every night while she slept. Speaking to her so that she could not see him, he told her never to try to see him. Psyche, though, incited by her two older sisters who told her Cupid was a monster, tried to look at him and angered Cupid. When he left, she looked all over the known world for him until at last the leader of the gods, Jupiter / Zeus, gave Psyche the gift of immortality so that she could be with him. Together they had a daughter, Voluptas, or Hedone, (meaning pleasure) and Psyche became a goddess.

The relation between Psyche and Cupid / Eros may have been the origins of the story of beauty and the beast.

Cupid and Eros have become so much a part of our lives that the symbol of a wing baby or wing naked male with an arrow is called Cupid or Eros so much so that even Christian influences fail to make an impact if you ask most people what statute stands in Piccadilly most will say Eros. The statue is actually The Angel of Christian Charity but is actually meant to be Eros brother Anteros.

This sideway step in to Cupids / Eros siblings that us in to a group of gods none as Erotes. Erotes are a group of winged gods and demi-gods from Classical mythology, associated with love and sex, and part of Aphrodite’s entourage.

In this Group of Erotes are Cupid / Eros, Anteros, Himeros and Pothos the Erotes are often assigned aspects love in general all aspects of love are given to Cupid / Eros but in the Erotes each god is assigned a specific area of love.

Eros – primordial god of lust, beauty, love, and intercourse; protector of homosexual love between men. Eros was depicted as often carrying a lyre or bow and arrow. He was also depicted accompanied by dolphins, flutes, roosters, roses, and torches

Anteros – god of requited love, literally “love returned” or “counterpart love”, avenger of unrequited love. Anteros was depicted as having butterfly wings armed with a golden club or having arrows of lead.

Himeros – is the god of sexual desire or unrequited love. Himeros is depiced winged like his brother Eros but wore a colourful headband called a taenia worn by atheletes.

Pothos - sexual longing, yearning and desire. In some myths he is seen as the sone of Eros

Hymns To The One Goddess

groups goddesses 300x251 Hymns To The One GoddessOh Goddess,
You Yourself are the Creator. Everything that happens is by Your Doing.
There is no one except You.

You created the creation; You behold it and understand it.
Amongst all is the Light–You are that Light.
By this Illumination, that Light is radiant within all.
The Goddess is the Greatest of the Great. No one calls Her any less.
No one can estimate Her Worth. By speaking of Her, Her Greatness is not increased.
You are the One True Mistress of all the other beings, of so many worlds.
Come, my dear sisters and spiritual companions; hug me close in your embrace.
You have so many Creative Powers, Mistress; Your Bountiful Blessings are so Great.
So many of Your beings and creatures praise You day and night.
You have so many forms and colours, so many classes, high and low.
Meeting the True One, Truth wells up. The truthful are absorbed into the True Goddess.
Upon that Highest Plane of Sublime Beauty, stands the Grove of the Goddess.
By true actions, this human body is obtained,
And the door within ourselves which leads to the Grove of the Goddess, is found.
The True Goddess Herself knows all; She makes no mistakes.
She is the Great Gardener of the Universe.
First, She prepares the ground, and then She plants the Seed of the True Name.
The nine treasures are produced from Name of the One Goddess.
The blind have forgotten the Name of the Goddess.
Their comings and goings in reincarnation do not end;
Through death and rebirth, they are wasting away.
Without the Word of the Goddess, people wander lost in reincarnation.
Through the love of duality, multitudes have been drowned.
O mind, swim across, by focusing your consciousness on Her names.
As it pleases You, Mistress, You save me. There is no other for me at all.
In front of me, I see the forest burning; behind me, I see green plants sprouting.
We shall merge into the One from whom we came.
The True One is pervading each and every heart.
She Herself unites us in Union with Herself;
The True Mansion of Her Presence is close at hand.

With each and every breath, I dwell upon You; I shall never forget You.
The more the Goddess dwells within the mind,
The more the lover of the Goddess drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.
Mind and body are Yours; You are my Mistress.
Please rid me of my hate, my jealousy, and my ignorance, and let me merge with You.
Everyone belongs to the One who rules the Universe.
The lover of the Goddess practices good deeds, and the truth is revealed in the heart.
True is the reputation of the true, within whom truth abides.
Those who meet the True Goddess are not separated again;
They come to dwell in the home of the self deep within.
O mind, don’t cry out that you are hungry, always hungry; stop complaining.
The One who created the infinite species of beings gives sustenance to all.
The Fearless Goddess is forever Merciful; She takes care of all.

O lover of the Goddess, She understands, and finds the Door of Liberation.
Those who keep the Goddess enshrined within their hearts are said to be blessed.
Placing mind and body in offering before the Goddess,
They conquer and eradicate jealousy from within.
Blessed and acclaimed is that lover of the Goddess, who shall never be defeated.
Those who receive Her Grace find Her;
Without Her Grace, She cannot be found.
In the Grove of the Goddess, peace is found,
meditating on Her nine billion names night and day.
The truthful ones are not stained by hate.
Meditating on the Goddess, their minds remain pure;
The lovers of the Goddess shed their ego; attuned to her orgasm, they find peace.
The One Goddess is the Giver of all; She Herself bestows all blessings.
No one else has any say in this; She gives just as She pleases.

O mind, vibrate and meditate forever on the Goddess; seek the Protection of Her Grove.
The Mistress of the Universe is the Treasure of Excellence; Her limits cannot be found.
She is not obtained by mouthing mere words, but by rooting out jealousy from within.
By Goddess’ Grace, one remains blended with the True Name of the Creatrix;
This mind is very powerful; we cannot escape it just by trying.
In the love of duality, people suffer in pain, condemned to terrible punishment.
O mind, give up the love of duality.
The Goddess dwells within you; serving the Goddess, you shall find peace.
Engrossed in jealousy, the world perishes.
It dies and is re-born; it continues coming and going in reincarnation.
The self-willed do not recognize the Goddess;
They forfeit their honour, and depart in disgrace.

The True Queen has written Her Order, which no one can erase.
The self-willed do not obtain the Grove of the Goddess’ Presence.
The false are plundered by falsehood.
Engrossed in egotism, the world perishes.
Without the Goddess, there is utter darkness.
In emotional attachment to one lover, they have forgotten the Great Giver, the Giver of Peace.
Those who serve the True Goddess are saved;
They keep the True Goddess enshrined in their hearts.
By Her Grace, we find the Queen, and reflect on the True Word of the Goddess.
The desires of the mind are fulfilled, when one is filled to overflowing with Her orgasm.
One who fears, loves, and is devoted to the Dear Goddess day and night,
Sees Her always close at hand.
Doubt runs far away from the bodies of those,
Whose minds remain forever attuned to the True Word of the Goddess.
The Immaculate Mistress is found. She is True; She is the Ocean of Excellence.
Those who remain awake and aware are saved, while those who sleep are plundered.
They do not recognize the True Word of the Goddess, and like a dream, their lives fade away.
Like guests in a deserted house, they leave just exactly as they have come.
