What is Magick

bnw1 247x300 What is MagickMention magic to most people and they immediately start thinking about Wicked Witches, Wizards and Sorcerers conjuring up evil sounding spells and poisons from boiling bubbling cauldrons sat on blazing smoking fires. Others imagine comedians on stage with funny pointy hats and black and white wands. Still others think of Illusionists making people disappear then re-appear from boxes and other contrived stage props.

Since time immemorial magic has been used in witchcraft, and many myths and evil associations have been attributed to its use. Here I shall concentrate on magic and how it is perceived by witches of today. Not everybody agrees and there are many theories on the subject, so this is my theory, based on my opinion and my experiences. At the end of the day you shall have to form your own.

So what is magic really? (Or “magick” as those in the craft would term it). How, what, where and when should it be used? These are the questions I aim to answer here.

First let us destroy the myths of wizards throwing around lightening bolts doing battle with evil sorcerers, and all other such nonsense’s. Magick is a force utilising power, wisdom and knowledge. It is both more and less powerful than the ignorant can suppose. Magick can only be used to change the changeable, for instance – it can be used to cure a sickness but not to replace a lost limb. Magick is not a power to be used in place of our other powers, meaning those of our physical, mental or emotional abilities. Nor is it a crutch for the weak or an ego-boost for the inadequate. Magick is an art and skill unto itself. It needs to be learned then trained to develop, and that takes time and patience.

If we believe that everything and all originate from the same source, then the ability for using magick must be retained within us all. Magick then is a forgotten art passed down through aeons of reincarnations and it resides inside us all. Therefore magick is a skill that needs to be re-learned and trained if it’s to be used well, effectively and wisely.

In modern days magick is used not only in ritual ceremonies, but also on a daily bases during spiritual communication with the Goddess and God. It is used daily for healing purposes and perhaps more frequently for personal purposes like reducing negativity, protection and improving the self. It can also be used for many other purposes as determined by the individual while bearing in mind “The three fold law”.

Power

Magick in essence is the use and control of natural energies or power to produce and effect needed change. There are three basic sources of natural energy or power used: Personal Power, Earth Power and Divine Power.

Personal Power:

Is the life force that sustains us and protects our earthly existence. It’s the power that resides within our own bodies; some may call it “willpower”. As we go about our daily business we are constantly absorbing energy, be it from the sun during the day or the moon during the night or the food and drink we consume. This energy we store and release during movement, exercise, sex, and even through our emotional states. This we all do quite naturally.

In magick we learn to harness and arouse this personal power, infuse it with a particular purpose, release it and direct it towards it’s goal.

Earth Power:

Is the power that resides within our planet and its natural products.  Such things as: Stones, Trees, Wind, Fire, Water, Crystals, Oils and Scents. All these things and more possess unique powers and give out specific energies that can be harnessed and used during ritual and magick.

Hold a stone in the palm of your hand (receptive hand), concentrate on your hand and visualise the stone. Feel it’s force tingling? A crystal can be charged and then held against the forehead to clear up migraine or headaches with it’s healing properties. Like-wise herbs and oils can be charged then rubbed onto the body to effect internal changes. These are just a few examples of earth power and it’s uses.

Divine Power:

Is spiritual power, that which is charged and channelled by the Goddess and the God. Personal power and earth power are both manifestations of divine power. Divine power is the force of life, the source of everything, the power of the universe that created existence.

To use divine power the Goddess and God need to be invoked to bless the magick being prepared, this is normally done inside a properly constructed circle. For instance during ritual, personal power may be used to effect some personal change, then directed to the deities asking for a specific need to be met.

Other Associations

Magick is not just about the use of power; one cannot just stand up, call out to the Goddess and God and demand that magick be done – “So Be It”. A lot of work is involved in preparation for the use of magick. Once a need for the use of magick has been identified, careful consideration needs to be given to other associations if a successful outcome is to be achieved. Other associations cover such things as – Time, when should the magick be performed. Tools, which tools are best employed for the task. Then we need to consider co-ordinating – Colours, Candles, and Incense. All these influences when combined together increase the power and lend added effect to the spell or rite.

Magickal Days:

When planning magical workings, consideration needs to be given as to when the work needs to be performed for best effect. We need to ascertain the best time or day for when to perform it. Days have their own magickal associations, which are similar to and connected with the other tables. Thus creating harmony during ritual and generating increased power when all are working together. Days in general are associated with and influenced by the Sun and six of the Planets.

Tools:

As with most other religions, tools are used in Wicca to aid and enhance ritual worship. Tools have no powers within themselves save for that which we pass through them, though they do have powerful symbolic significance’s, which help us to focus our will and concentration. Tools are used to invoke deities, banish negativity, and direct our energies though touch and intention. Thus we need to know and understand the properties and symbolism of our tools in order to use them properly and correctly.

Candles:

Candles have long been used in association with magick, as indeed they have been adopted and used by many other religions for spiritual communication.

Candle magick is probably the oldest and simplest form of ritual magick still performed today. Ever since fire was discovered, the naked flame has been regarded as sacred. In ancient times lighted touches were used to invoke the Goddess and Gods. Today we symbolise those acts by utilising candles. The naked flame remains the finest and easiest means of focusing in on power and energy.

The use of differently coloured candles symbolises the nature of intent and ultimately can influence the outcome of a particular spell. Coloured candles are therefore used to pinpoint our focus on a particular deity or planetary association. We need to understand the colour properties and other associations of candles to make our magick work for best effect.

Colours:

Colour plays a powerful role in ritual Witchcraft and Magick. Colours are carefully considered and assigned to all aspects of spell making, ritual magick and festivals.

Colours have symbolic associations representing occult powers, and have their own energy frequencies that emanate specific influences. Careful consideration needs to be given to colour associations when used with Candles, Clothing, Symbols, Deities influences, Planetary influences, Causes and Effects, Zodiacal influences and Magickal Days.

Incense:

Incense like candles have long had associations with magick, and like candles are used commonly by many other religions. The use of incense in witchcraft is threefold:

(1) It conditions the mind by stimulating our senses of smell.

(2) In connection with spells, it draws down the spirits through its magickal association with the elements of Air.

(3) According to ancient beliefs, when a spell is done. It raises the spell up into the ether and sends it on its way.

In magick, the type of incense used needs to correspond with the nature of the spell being worked. Most spells require incense associated with a particular planet or deity. Many types of incense are used for their purification and cleansing properties during ritual.

There are of course other associations and considerations I haven’t mentioned. These include zodiacal associations and planetary associations; even hourly associations can have an effect. But then how far would you wish to take it? Like anything else you can go overboard. Consider that by trying to include everything in your preparation, would you ever have time for the actual working? It’s often been said that the most effective magick is simple magick. Leave the complicated stuff for the adept’s or until such time as you have been trained and gained considerable experience.

Magick then is a process in which we work closely and in harmony with the divine power source. This is envisaged as the Goddess and God with whom we communicate through the use of earth power and personal power. Magick begins within us. By learning to harness and control our personal power, so then can we use magick to produce and affect needed change for others and ourselves.

The Mind

Magick begins within us, its already there, an intuitive knowledge and instinctive ability passed down to us through aeons of regenerated reincarnations, it sits there deep in the back of the mind waiting to be used. The mind needs to be trained in the techniques of meditation, visualisation, concentration and imagination if once again we desire to use these forgotten abilities.

Meditation:

Given the pace of life in society today and the stresses and worries that go with it, it’s difficult for most of us to gain relief and let go of our cares and woes. Meditation is one way to induce total relaxation and normally precedes any act of magick or ritual. Let’s face it; we cannot begin to work with magick, which requires our full concentration, if we are worried about mundane everyday things. Meditation is also the quiet time in which we release our hold on the conscious mind and confront our inner-self, or through our psychic awareness communicate with the deities.

Choose your time and place with care, ideally somewhere peaceful and quiet, and where you won’t be disturbed. Perhaps the last thing at night after all has gone to bed, or early in the morning before the household arises. Light a candle in a darkened room (White or blue symbolises spirituality and meditation, and burn appropriate incense if you wish (Lotus, Myrrh or Passionflower may help but use what feels right for you. Sit comfortably in a chair and take a moment to savour your surroundings, the lighted candle glowing softly in the darkness, the scent of the incense stimulating the senses, feel and listen to the peace and quiet.

Relax as much as you can, empty the mind and think of nothing, breathe deeply in through the nose and out through the mouth, gradually your breathing rate will slow down. For those who haven’t tried this exercise before, care needs to be taken at this stage in case you fall asleep. If you feel sleep coming on, snap out of it and start again. As your breathing rate slows down and while inhaling, use your imagination to visualise incoming peace and tranquillity, while exhaling, visualise your hate, anger, tensions and worries leaving the body and dispersing. Feel yourself relaxing more into the chair.

Now we can open up the conscious mind allowing it to become receptive and alert. Your psychic mind will also open and awareness will grow each time you practice. Call out to the Gods and talk with them, discus your troubles and ask for advice, or look into yourself and see what you can find. Once you have finished meditating, it might be a good idea to record your findings, the thoughts, images and sensations you experienced, so you can pick up on it again the next time you practice.

Visualisation:

Is probably the most important aspect of any magickal working. Its what we use to guide and direct the power and energy raised during ritual and while using magick. We all have the ability to visualise, but most people do so randomly. Perhaps when sitting in the car while stuck in a traffic jam, the mind takes flight and begins to wonder? Or when sat in a classroom during a boring lecture, we might start thinking about favourite things, seeing them in our minds eye while the teacher drones on in the background? This is random visualisation.

For use in magick we need to train and control this ability, so that we can see, hold and shape whatever it is we want to see, and then direct our powers and energies towards it. For instance I may want to protect my home from intruders. In which case I would raise personal power while holding an image of the home in my mind, then visualise an energy field encircling the house sealing the doors and windows. Outside the house I may imagine the police apprehending intruders. I then direct my raised power and energise the visualisation, thus bringing it into manifestation and leaving the protection in place to work its magick.

This then is the art of visualisation control, the ability to see in the mind what isn’t there, to hold a non-existent image or happening and shaping it into being what you want it to be. Visualisation is not “the power” or “the energy”, nor does it create it on its own, more that it directs raised power and energy to its final conclusion.

Training:

Visualisation in itself may sound easy and it is while sat in a chair in a relaxed state of mind. But visualising is only part of the process of working magick. The difficult part is to retain your visualisation with your eyes open, stood in the centre of your circle with your hands and mind occupied in manipulating your tools and other tasks. It takes a little training and practise to perfect this technique.

You could start by incorporating a few simple exercises into your daily meditation practise. While still in your relaxed state with your eyes closed, visualise a still object, something familiar to you like an apple, a toothbrush, or something equally simple. Hold the image as long as you can, allow nothing else to interfere, and then let it go. When you can hold the image without interruption for five minutes, try the same exercise but with your eyes open. This is a little harder but practise daily and it will come.

Once you’ve accomplished this, we start again. Visualise the same image, only this time play with it. Turn it around, see it grow or expand, maybe change its colours and textures, or try to see it from different angles. When you can do this, try it again but with your eyes open. As you become more proficient, you might want to incorporate it into your active life, try doing it while occupied with mundane things, like when cooking dinner or washing up afterwards. See how long you can hold the image in your mind’s eye while washing the plates and dishes.

The final exercise is to visualise a non-existent image or something you have never seen before. Use your imagination to create something, something meaningful to you perhaps. I use a silver white unicorn with wings, riding down a sunbeam into a picturesque forest glade. Whatever you use, see it as a real thing in your mind, make it so real you could almost touch and feel it. Hold the image as long as you can, then let it go.

As with the other exercises, we need to be able to see the same image with our eyes open and while occupied with other things. When you can do this, you’re well on your way to using magick.

The Self (Grounding and Centering).

Finally a note of caution to anyone new to using magick. Magick begins within the self. Its already there in the back of the mind where it’s tied up with our energy and mental facilities. When working with magick you can be working with some powerful energy and forces. Repeated or excessive use of magick without proper care and attention to the self, depletes the self’s resources and can lead to debilitating personal health difficulties, such as mental exhaustion, headaches and migraines etc.

To combat these difficulties, witches use a technique called “Grounding and Centering”. Before any ritual, magical working or divinatory activity, a witch will first ‘Ground and Center’ to booster the self’s resources by infusing ‘Personal Power’ with ‘Earth Power’ using the techniques already mentioned above. This technique can also be used to calm fear, anxiety and agitation.

To do this, plant your feet firmly on the ground (some people prefer to do this bare footed, standing on bare earth or grass, but it can also be done seated and regardless of where one is or how one is dressed). Close your eyes, blank your mind and steady yourself. Inhale a slow deep breath and release it slowly while visualizing any retained negative energy or influences flowing out of the body through your feet and dispersing harmlessly into the ground. Inhale again while visualizing positive ‘Earth’ energy being drawn up into the body through the feet. Repeat this process until you feel that all your negativity has been released and the incoming energy has touch and infused all your body’s chakra points (these are the seven zones within the body that retain energy, the subject of another lesson, but later). You should now be feeling calm and energized to commence with your magical workings.

Once the rite or working is complete, repeat this exercise to disperse any residual energy. Most witches then follow up with a ‘Cake and Ale’ ritual, food and drink to replace and replenish spent energy.

Once your work is done and all is completed, a period of self-analyses should follow. Carefully monitor the subject of your magic and record your experiences in your ‘Book of Shadows’. This will provide you valuable information for future workings.

Death of a spirit guide

wolf3 300x198 Death of a spirit guideWhen I first started in the craft I was gifted with two spirit guides, one of these guides was a wonderful wolf who for the purpose of this peace we will just call “wolf”.

Now wolfs are very powerful totems they act as great teachers teaching much about magicks, and healing. The wolf also represents a journey in many paths.

Now I would spend a lot of time with wolf I felt his presence in my daily life he would warn me of oncoming danger, taught me how to transform into a mouse so I could ride on is back so we could travel long distances at speed.

He helped me find my true pagan path and eventually lead me to the goddess who had been calling me to her service for so many years.

My relationship with wolf was one of mutual respect and I would show honour to wolf with pictures of wolfs on my clothes and on my walls almost everywhere I went I left a trail of wolf icons.

Wolf came to me when I was just a child and stayed my friend, confident and my teacher for over 20 years. I would visit wolf in a sacred place marked with two trees most times wolf would be their at the gateway waiting for me other time he would be waiting in the grove, I learned that if he was in the grove he had left a lesson I was to learn along the path so I would have to seek the desired information.

One day as I entered my meditation to visit wolf I found that I found that the gateway would not manifest I also sensed another presence so I back out of my meditation and decided to try another day after reinforcing my wards.

With my wards fully in place I tried again although this time I could see the gateway a large dark form was still present I decided not to proceed in fear of leading something to wolf’s location. So I went off and sort some advice on how best to proceed I also spoke to my other spirit guide.

This time I was prepared I knew that I had to confront the dark form so I could get to wolf. As I entered the meditative state I could see the two trees and the entrance to the glade the dark form was guarding the entrance. The dark form was a large bear and I was prepared for battle and as I approached the bear he stood and greeted me a friendly soft greeting he told me that wolf was no longer here and he told me his name and asked me to follow him.

I refused pushing past him and running in to the glade dropping a barrier to prevent the creature from following as I entered the glade I saw the lifeless body of wolf lying on the ground I rushed over knelt down and cradled his head in my lap and begin to cry as I stroked wolfs head noticing how old he really was.

As I lamented the large bear came and sat beside me and placed his paw on my shoulder and explained that my time with wolf had come to and end and he was to be my new guide.

I must say that I was less than receptive to the bear in fact I was very hostile and did something I now regret I blasted him away sealing myself and wolf in a bubble I must of cried for hours as I remembered my time with wolf.

For weeks I was not myself so much so that I asked my second in command to take control of the group for me, which he did. For the next few weeks in every meditation and visualisation bear was present but at distance as he had leant that if he came close he would be blasted away.

Now my group would meet every Friday for training discussion and sharing information which was useful as it was an eclectic coven and their was much information that was shared and it had a few weeks before I could speak of my lose and how I felt and my experience although I never mentioned the bear as such I was still ignoring his existence.

My second in command almost laughed at me telling me that spirit guides die when they have no more to teach and I should be very lucky to have a replacement waiting it was one of the younger members of the group who then asked “is that why George has been standing behind you for the last few weeks” the whole group looked at this member and I said “George” to which the younger member replied “ya you know the Hofmeister Bear”, my second in command then said “you got a bear your so lucky”. Now after that meeting I did make my peace with “George” although it did take some time for him to come close but after many meeting where I did nothing but apologise for my behaviour he has become a true friend and a great teacher. “George” has helped me become the person and the witch I am today and in honour of “George” I have loads of little bears dotted around my home.

Meditation Time and Place

Love 300x225 Meditation Time and PlaceWell it silly o’clock again and the world stand silence the odd breeze shaking the leave but its that pause in deepest darkness just before the world wakes up in an explosion of sounds I enjoy the most a time when alone I sit and thoughts are so clear and meditation is so natural and I can feel the energy uninterrupted flowing deeply through me.

For each of us there are perfect times to meditate times when with out thought or understanding we slip slowly in to a state of pure bliss and the energy flow through us without interruption.

Now I count myself very lucky to live in a very quite area deep in the heart of Dorset surrounded by fields and not to many people. But when I lived in the city I would find that the time just before dawn was the most creative time as it was the most quite. I would often get up a silly o’clock do a days work before neighbours where up and moving about.

During meditation we should not block out but accept outside noise and let it go, we are told to take phone off the hook and make sure we will not be disturbed. The problem is that we live in a very noisy world car driving by, children screaming, people arguing and a myriad of other daily sound, which we accept as the norm.

All of these sounds are energy, which without influence affects us, and they effect our meditations.

Meditation is the quite mind and the still body no matter how good we are a meditation we are affected by the outside world the “group consciousness” of which we are all a part of.

Now I know many people who would love to use a sensory deprivation chamber so they could gain that perfect silence in which meditation happens without trying. A place where a higher state of peace is reached. I myself would love to try one but logistics and cost have to be considered.

But that removal of sensory overload can happen just by finding the correct time and place for meditation. Now find such a place is easy you do not need to climb a mountain or find a deserted beach or even sit in the middle of a forest the two best time are late at night after everyone has gone to bed or first thing in the morning before everyone wakes up.

If you live in the city it probably one time between 3 am and 5 am.

If you do a night meditation the goal is to unwind and distress before bed clearing your mind for dreams and night visions while morning ones are for creative ideas and inner strength and peace.

However these morning and night meditations should not be structure as a “meditation session” they should and will become natural meditations states.

The format I use is the morning meditation, which will take sometime to adjust your sleeping pattern to, it will require you to go to bed earlier than normal and wake naturally.

Once you wake do your normal routine go for a wee make a coffee or tea etc but don’t put TV or Radio on and sit on the sofa or in a soft chair put on a lamp rather than the main light and just breath in the quite allow yourself to become one with the silence there is no more to it than that.

In time you adjust to the silence and find your inner bliss. It will take several attempt at this meditation to get it perfect their will be time when you doze off so it a good idea to leave your alarm clock set to your regular time so you are awake at the correct time.

After your meditation it a good idea to do a rising sun ritual to charge your batteries for the coming day you can do this as simply as having a morning drink as you watch the sun rise outside weather permitting or yoga or tai chi routine.

Never again! The law is on our side

pagan20pride Never again! The law is on our sideGoing through my Book of Shadows this morning I came across this and though I would share I hope JR Grover does not mind but it is only 21 years and I am not sure if it is available anywhere.

I used to have this in my office at work as it gave me confidence in my early days in the craft to come out and be a proud witch

You are politely but firmly requested not to discriminate against our pagan and spiritual heritage.

As pagans, witches and Druids, we have every right to express our views and practices. Our traditions with the fall protection of British and international law.

The last remaining laws prohibiting witchcraft in Great Britain were repealed in 1951.

This was necessary to bring British law in line with the United Nations universal declaration of human rights, which states:

Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public Private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

Article 19
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Adopted and proclaimed by the Gen assembly of the United Nations on 10 December 1948.

Compared to various Christian persuasion is (a religion of Middle Eastern origin), particularly those of its recent forms of fundamentalists and similar sex often seem ill informed, even ignorant of the original and sacred spiritual heritage of the British Isles. We would encourage them to at least learn about our ways; any scientist will inform them that to criticise with out a reasonable comprehensive grasp of the subject renders the criticism invalid. The blind prejudice frequently expressed against paganism by such people is often the result of such gross ignorance. Here are the two basic areas of information which will dispense with many major misconceptions.

1 Satanism, and the devil
Satanism is an offshoot of that Judaic Christian. Islamic tradition it is then invention and has nothing to do with the symbolic horned God of the witches and pagans come up, which exists as a symbolic representation of the masculine characteristics of nature’s fecundity long before the Judaic Christian and Islamic traditions were culturally developed from Samaria Arcadian and the late Egyptian religious concepts (i.e. monotheistic panentheism). The devil is solely part of the Judaic Christian Islamic pantheon of deific characters. In 1484, Pope Innocent 8th published a bull classify our pagan symbols as personification of their devil. And so on, infighting and promoting deliberate religious persecution and genocide. Pagans (and Christian is deemed heretics), of all persuasions have been so treated by religious authorities from as early as 307CE, and in Europe to date at least 9 million have been tortured and killed by heretic and witch hunts (an academic has recently identified some 35-45,000 recorded arraignments and executions solely of those accused of being witches. In some cases of those countries, and only a few countries were Christianity was the enforced belief system – and those from only a tiny proportion of such records still exist).

2 learn your heritage
the pagan heritages of all nations are the original roots from which the modern religions sprang. These religions usually arose from a significant or, divinely inspired person capable of seeing the armed. The strictures of their cultural norms, who gave guidance to the ordinary people, to enable them to survive conditions. The less perceive Could not comprehend. Inevitably, these charismatic individuals designed their message from earlier knowledge; they are often known to have been educated in earlier traditions, which enable them to see the wider picture – and far at least. As their particular culture would enable them to stop. It is an unfortunate fact that the less adaptable followers tend to create institutions, which often become power hungry to the extent of denying their originators background. For incense, read the Venerable Bede, on the slaughter of the entire pagan population of the Isle of Wight in 686CE. Reid also a bonus (decline and fall of the Roman Empire), and the actions of the Valentitian and Valens. This was long before the Inquisition, where in many celibate Christian monks, refined methods of torture, mainly of women, with zealous enthusiasm. Nowadays, surely all religious except the rights of others, religious freedom of expression? Simply read the exact wording of their current dogma in the light of their history and find out. Then learn your pagan heritage and the concepts behind our traditions; it is your birthright, which they had tried to deny you. As pagans, we are pantheists; we recognise the supernality as intrinsic to existence itself, the order by which time and space and fold, and we find monotheistic panentheism, a pre-existent creator god childishly absurd in a scientific aware world. Our quaint and beautiful symbolic minutes, ceremonies and deities, allegories the processes of nature and existence, and celebrate the existence of humanity as part of the whole. After all, your existence is a result of the evolutionary nature, despite absurd creationist modern sects born of inward looking religious self-delusion. We are happy to coexist with other spiritual paths, and perfectly willing to discuss their validity of each other as core beliefs and morals and natural supernality.
As inheritors of the pagan knowledge, we conceive of Jesus Christ as a magnificent example of a middle eastern known scientific folk of their 2160 year Piscean age, now ending As we enter the Aquarian age. As starch, we have due respect for this figure, and his true followers who wish to peacefully coexist with other spiritual traditions, but not for the Christian churches with their appalling record of genocide, torture, material acquisition suppression of other spiritual traditions, including those from which they descend, their involvement with fascists and various oppressive governments, their suppression of winning, their coal industry a dark and murky politics, and perhaps above all, their doctrinal denial of every human being is divine right to seek spirituality. Based on reality, not confined by an enforced dogma. Nowadays, we do not live under the tyranny of an enforced belief system. Paganism is currently the fastest growing spiritual cosmology. In this land, at least, and a dogmatic religions are declining as progressing human knowledge about our universe, its origins and ours are no longer censored by religious dogma. This is because the pagan principles are absolutely appropriate in a word, where environmental concerns focus attention on the necessity of looking after this beautiful Earth, and of course, there is no contradiction between the experimental concepts underlying pagan knowledge and the knowledge developed through scientific discovery.

After 2000 years of oppression. We say never again! We feel we have the right to express our freedom with the support of decent people throughout the Wales. If you have come across discrimination against pagans weather, which is truth or others including Third World pagan folk. Please inform the perpetrator that they are in violation of internationally enforceable law against religious discrimination and are liable to arrest and prosecution because the civilised governments of the world regards such prejudices as immoral and unacceptable.

Vibrational awareness

glinniekindred 150x150 Vibrational awarenessChanging the way we think

Our thoughts travel beyond the limitations of time and space. We can “pick up” other peoples thoughts, and by the same token they can “receive” ours. Telepathy is an extension of this inherent ability we have.

Out thoughts can create harmony, life our spirits and strengthen our life force. They may also be stuck in destructive patterns that create illness and sap our energy.

The thoughts we have and the words we say reflect our inner feelings, the way perceive life our basic beliefs. What we believe comes true for us.

We are not always consciously aware of the thoughts and messages we send to ourselves and others. By putting aside some time every day-to-day dream, do some art or craftwork, meditate, garden or walk, we watch the thoughts that come to the surface. Once we can see them we can choose to change them.

Positive affirmations encourage the growth of positive life affirming thoughts and beliefs. They are simple phrases constructed in the present tense and repeated to yourself as you meditate, walk, drive, garden or as you slip to sleep.

They initiate positive change from within and eventually a new thought pattern takes hold and become a new belief. This is then reflected in the messages we send ourselves and others, and creates a New possibilities for a new future.

Mazes and labyrinths

movlabychartres Mazes and labyrinths Mazes and labyrinths have always fascinated me ever since childhood. But what are mazes and labyrinths they are puzzles, which are solved by taking a journey. At the end of the journey through the labyrinth a reward is gained normally a symbolic freedom.

The world Maze in colloquial English is generally synonymous with the word labyrinth. Although there are define differences a maze is complex many branching path with dead ends with one solution to solve the puzzle whilst a labyrinth is a single, non-branching path, which leads to the centre.

Mazes and labyrinths can be constructed as lines marked in stone, brick, turf or paint / ink on the ground or can be constructed as walled pathways made from bricks, hedges corn or maize.

I can remember my first time in a maze it was at the Leeds castle maze I can remember walking in all cocky thinking it would be easy to solve well I was 19 and their where moments where I did disperse that I would never get out. I will say that in the end I called out for help from one of the gardeners who kindly directed me to the centre.

Now probably one of the reason that mazes and I share a connection, is this maze at Leeds castle the exit in the centre on the maze is a tunnel that takes you under the maze itself in to a grotto where I had one of my most important spiritual developments.

The grotto design was in 1987 by Vernon Gibberd, working with sculptor Simon Verity and shell artist Diana Reynell, designed the Leeds Castle grotto to represent The Underworld.

Descending coloured stone steps, lead you past the Guardians of the Sources of Water.

Crafted in the corners of the main chamber are carvings celebrating the four elements (earth air fire and water) and sacred mythical beasts. The domed ceiling is decorated with black and white swans and symbols of alchemy and Leeds Castle.

As you proceeds, the designs become more macabre with bones emerging from the walls, fish flying on the ceiling, creatures walking upside down and encrusted on the walls, exotic minerals.

A new addition behind bars, guarding the final chamber is the squatting figure of a life-sized mythical green man holding a bronze key. Sculpted by Kent artist, Malcolm Murduck in 1999, the green man is thought to have pagan roots and symbolises the spirits of woodland and rebirth.

At the end of the tunnel the mood lightens with a shell phoenix – also a symbol of rebirth – in a guarded cave. Daylight greets as you emerges into a square hermitage formed by the retaining walls of the end steps and roofed by the bridge leading to the maze entrance above.

As I enter the grotto I could feel mother earth embrace me and lead me into a chamber where I begin a ritual I never cast a circle or call elements as I knew that all was in place and I also knew I would not be disturbed which I was not, on exiting the grotto along the path describe above I could feel by self being reborn a witch.

Ever since then the labyrinth has become an important part of my practice I use the Classical labyrinth sometime refer to as the goddess maze which is a simple labyrinth that looks a bit like a tree. I use this labyrinth in a number of ways but mostly in meditation and visualisation.

cretanmv Mazes and labyrinths

For meditation I would draw a classical labyrinth the number of turn are based on the issues I wish to meditate on. This would act as a sigil for meditation. I would start the mediation by visualising the sigil seeing it form a path before me then I would just travel the path and see what arrives by the time I reach the centre issues is solved and as I walk back I plan my cause of action.

Since it fairly easy to find these classic labyrinths in parks just by walking one I find that you can find solutions to problems.

Classic labyrinths can be use to cast love spells one of my favourites is stand at the beginning of a classic labyrinth create a energy sphere and tint it pink and start to walk the lines chanting “I move to you” once in the centre state “I seek love now let love seek me” as you move out chant “you move to me” once at the start turn and state “for me to be open to love I must met it half way” walk back to the centre chanting “I am open and ready for love” at the centre state “I have travelled the road to find love and my journey so shall end I am ready to face love now send my love to me” release the energy bubble if possible visualise it exploding outwards like a bomb. To ground, as you’re walking out think of work the electric bill etc by the time you reach the beginning you will be fully grounded.

Have fun with labyrinths and maze the hold a wealth of magical information try creating a journey through the grotto in the form of a pathworking or meditation.

The Future 2012 and beyond

mayan calendar S 150x150 The Future 2012 and beyondYule for me is a time of reflection and forward planning it normally starts when I go through my address book making my card list. I start remember friends that I have not seen in so long followed by trying to get in the Xmas spirit.

But as Yule gets closer I start looking forward to my solstice and I am finally resolved to having some fun and facing another year ahead making new years resolutions which will be broken, warmer days, summer BBQs etc.

Now on New Years Eve I don’t go out and if I do I am always home before midnight as I have a ritual where I ring the old year out and ring the new year in with bells something my grandmother did and I have found that when I don’t do it I end up moving home not sure why but it happens. After my ritual I normally sit and do some free flow meditation and write down what I see and carve it to a sort of prophecy the seal it away and look it a New year’s day one year later to see 1 how accurate I am the other to learn more about developing a skill.

Now this idea about prophetic dreaming is not new and there have been some great prophets and prophetesses and great prophecies. The Problem with prophecy is the interpretation.

Now over the next few year and decades we are predicted to face great change both socially and spiritually this is nothing new historically. If you take a large enough section of time you can see repeated patterns, history repeating itself. Now days we can predict some natural events such as when a volcano is due to blow or when the next stage of social development will happen for a culture or a world. These events happen regularly – with out getting geeky everything returns to beginning some of these patterns take mere months order prescription drugs without a prescription to return (moon returns to the same position once every years) others years (the sun returns to the same point once every 18 years(+) ) while others take centuries or even millennia.

In a couple of years / decades we face two of these patterns returning to their starting point the first 2012 the end of the Mayan fire calendar and the Hoppi prophecy regarding 21-12-2012 and the prediction of the next great spiritual leader expected 2050.

Now there are many Doomsayers that are saying that the world will end in 2012 but from what I understand from the prophecy all that will happen is their will be shift towards the feminine aspect a kinder caring world a world of spiritual change a change in planetary position. Well we are due for a change in the magnetic poles of the earth in 2012…and we all know that magnets can be very useful in magickal workings!

But this change is not going to be over night there will be a period of adjustment. The last time we had a change in an age it took a while for the change to settle before and after the event. The goddess has been moving into position for this change the re-immergence of pagan paths began a few hundred years back gain more strength at the end of the last century but she still a long way to go.

Now my view on these prophecies is that we will have many more years as the human race adjusts to a new spiritual path but with each new generation born under the influence of the new magnetic forces grows closer to a perfect world in which war famine and poverty will become history and in or around the year 2050 and new spiritual leader will come and show us all the way to the divine or at least show us the path and we will all be ready when the next age comes and we take another step to returning home to our divine form.

I believe that us in human form need many more reincarnations to gain the true understanding that will lead us to perfection and understanding of what is to be divine maybe when we reach the stars we can become the stars.

I also believe that those that are closer to the goddess now will grow more quickly that those paths that dismiss women. We are become the elder brothers and sister trusted now by the Mother to watch and guide our your siblings through our wisdom we can now guide them away from the mistakes we made.

The Future is a dream that we all share and only together can we create it.

Meditation to find your totem animal

witchcat 150x150 Meditation to find your totem animalYourself in a relaxed place sitting or lying and begin to focus on your breath. Create a circle around you for protection. Start by visualising the door and see yourself opening the door as the door opens you can see a beautiful country scene, you can see into the deep green grass the beautiful blue sky you can hear the birds singing and the sweet smell of summer hanging in the air. You notice all around you huge trees you stare up through the branches of trees so high that you can feel your neck hurting as you strain to see the top of the trees so you look down at the trunk of the trees and you notice a small door you notice that every tree at the door so you choose one you feel comfortable opening.

As you open the door you can see a spiral staircase which leads both to the top of the tree and a deep inside the Earth you choose to travel down deep into the earth as you descend make not of any smells, textures that catch your eye when you reach the bottom you’ll be faced with another door this time it’s made from animal skin as you pull back the fur you find yourself in a very very large cave just a short distance from you see a pile stones shaped like a seat walk over and sit down.

The Cavan is well lit off in the distance you can make how to shiny eyes as you sit there and watch you feel that you are being watched but you sit patiently. in the silence you can hear the animal moving and you feel it watching you ever begin to gain confidence it will move out shadows and move towards you you recognise this animal and you instantly feel a connection with it. Allow the animal to come to you once you and animals have made a physical connection spend sometime getting to know this totem it is very likely you will be able to communicate verbally.

Once you have spent some time communicating and getting to know your totem there will be a point when you will need to leave when you do you will need to retrace your journey but you will find that your totem will follow you out and from that point forward will remain with you. As you need it.

Don’t forget once finished remember to ground yourself and write up any notes

Rune stances

runes 150x150 Rune stancesA physical and life energy form of exercising the mind body and spirit similar to yoga, and some martial arts practices.

The idea behind runes stance is to connect to the individual runes, both physically and mentally and spiritually. The runes can be used individually as forms of meditation or as a formal sequence of movements.

For the solitary practitioner and beginners. Only the first three aett’s are used for more advanced students in their fourth aett are used, and require anything from 2 to 4 participants.

It is traditional to make any Rune stance session a ritual and acceptable format is-

Stand with feet slightly apart, facing north, make an invocation to the Gods, Bow , keeping the elbows into your sides. Clap three times. Take nine, deep breaths and begin stop

Each stance can be repeated a number of times (three, six, and nine) nine being the maximum. You can either work through from the first to the last Rune, or then repeat the aett all repeat each individual Rune. A number of times, before moving to the next stop.

Once you have completed the aett turn and face the East, and repeat the aett this time. You need to remember to change the arms and legs of the runes Feoh, Thorn, Rad, Wynne, Beorc and Os.

The beginner should perform Rune stances every other day, working up to everyday. Stances should either be performed in the morning or evening, a little experimentation should help you work out when is the best time to yourself.

Whilst in the position also Rune. You should meditate on the rune itself in its meaning and allow yourself to gain greater understanding of the rune. For those of you new to the runes learning the Rune poem and reciting the corresponding versus will help you learn the meanings of the rune will stop

The basic breathing technique in a circular in and out breath, while moving between runes of the breath should be exhale out of the rune in inhale into the rune.
