The Goddess Lesson Three

Lesson three goddess school of eclectic witchcraft Lesson three goddess school of eclectic witchcraft

In lesson three we are going to cover the Goddess. If we can all agree on one basic statement during this section it will help in our understanding of the Goddess. Statement:- The Goddess is the female aspect, energy of the “Divine” in manifest or archetypal form in which we find understanding. The goddess is equal to the male aspect whether as opponent, reflection or opposite and no matter how we envisage the goddess “She” does exist. During this lesson I am not looking to change your view it’s designed to give you a broader view of the goddess. Throughout history the role of the Goddess has changed from the Great mother to a consult, betrayer and even demon. She has been portrayed in single form, triple form and part of pantheons. She has been given roles from creator to the great destroyer. The Goddess has many archetypal forms and just as many names. Now certain paths and religions either pay more attention to the goddess reducing the god aspect or pay more attention to the god aspect reducing the goddess role. Christianity (old and new testaments) has reduced the goddess in its belief structure to the lowest form of woman the betrayer, the slut, the murder, the demon with the highest accolades be the virgin mother (a title reduced from the original God barer which was thought to be wrong as this would make a woman the creator of gods) or a Saint Martyred for her beliefs. Wicca on the other hand has place

The original diagram for this ritual has been lost but if you place the cauldron directly in front of you, the herbs and brewing ingrediance to the left and the cup to the right forming the triangle of the triskalion, once you have placed the tools in position visualiste the energy flow in the patten of the triskelion, before starting the ritual works very well. Tools: Herb(s) for tea Container for herb(s) Cup(s) and Tea Pot Decanter of Pure Spring Water Brewing dish with candle Scrying Candle cauldron Prepare By: Placing a small table or platform in the center of your working space and arranging the Brewing dish, herbs, cup(s), Tea Pot and spoon on the table. Also place the cauldron with scrying candle within for use during the meditation.  Prior to casting the Circle, light candle and fill the Brewing dish with Spring Water from a decanter. Keep the Brewing Dish covered during the Casting, as I have found this helps the water to heat faster and hotter. The Blessing of the Herbs With the tip of your Athame touching the Herbs, intone this blessing: Thou has grown by favor of the Sun, The Moon, and of the dew. I make this intercession, ye herb: I beseech thee to be of benefit to me and my rite, For thy virtues are unfailing. Thou art the Dew of all the Gods, The Eye of the Sun, The Light of the Moon, The Beauty and Glory of the Sky, The Mystery of Terra. I purify thee so that

May Day Beltane and Bile

Beltane (AKA Lá Bealtaine, Bealltainn, Beltain, Beltaine, Boaltinn, Boaldyn, Belotenia, G?yl Galan Mai) is the Celtic fire festival that either marks the mid point between spring and summer or for others the first day of summer. The name Beltane means ‘fires of Bel’. The god bel is also known as Belen, Belenus, Belinus, Bellinus, Bélénos, Belennos, Belenos, Bel, Bilé: Is The Celtic god of light and healing, “Bel” means “shining one,” or in Irish Gaelic, the name “bile” translates to “sacred tree.” It is thought that the waters of Danu, the Irish All-Mother goddess, fed the oak and produced their son, The Dagda. As the Welsh Beli, he is the father of Arianrhod by Don. Patron of sheep and cattle, Bel’s festival is Beltane, one of two main Celtic fire festivals. Beltane celebrates the return of life and fertility to the world — marking the beginning of summer and the growing season. Taking place on Sunset April 30, Beltane also is sometimes referred to as “Cetsamhain” which means “opposite Samhain.” The word “Beltaine” literally means “bright” or “brilliant fire,” and refers to the bonfire lit by a presiding Druid in honour of Bile. “Some believe this deity is the equivalent of Belatucadros, the consort of Belisama, another patroness of light, fire, the forge and crafts. Belatucadros, whose name means “fair shining one” or possibly “the fair slayer,” is the god of destruction and war and transports the dead to Danu’s “divine waters.” Celtic deities often reign over seemingly contradictory themes. In the case of Belatucadros,

Colours and their correspondences

Colours play a very important part in magicks; each colour has it own meaning and uses. One of the most basic forms of using colour in magick is candle magicks, but when performing magicks choosing the corresponding colour or colours will greatly enhance your magicks. Colours are known to affect your psychology, intellect and our emotions and have been used in therapies and in home to help change moods and behaviours. As humans we are conditioned to respond to colour almost from birth. We all know that red is for danger, green is for safety, white is purity and black is negative. We also have our own personal colours our favourite colours; colours that make us feel good or attractive but there are deeper meanings to colours, below is a table of colour correspondences giving the meanings of colours Colour Meaning White Always burn at least one white candle to symbolize and reinforce the contact with pure spirit. Aspects of the goddess Lesson three

Lesson three goddess school of eclectic witchcraft Lesson three goddess school of eclectic witchcraft

The aspect of the goddess will often be based on your personal belief structure, whether that a single deity or part of a pantheon. The one this that we can agree on is that the Goddess is the personification of woman in divine form. Now since I am a man my knowledge of what it is to be “woman” is limited, as a woman has limited knowledge of what it is to be “man”. With that being said I am aware of my anima (anima and animus, see Carl Jung) my female side or as I call it my inner goddess and I believe that females should be aware of the animus to help them connect to their inner god (the ritual drawing down the sun can help you connect). Now we know that different goddess embody different archetypes of womanhood from the lover right through to the warrior or destroyer each myth of the goddess containing its own stories of success and failure. But when we look at the aspects of the divine and eternal goddess we apply human existence or at least female existence to her. This mystery is played out in the cycles of the moon in a minor way “The Moon and her guises” where we get the four major aspects of woman and the goddess – the first being the maiden full of potential, the next being the mother filled with life and devoted to nurturing and the next being the crone wizened with age and full of knowledge and

Triple Goddess and its roots in Wicca and beyond

Colored_Triple_Goddess Colored_Triple_Goddess

In Wicca the Goddess is the mother the female aspect of the divine and is referred to as the goddess in triple aspect. The aspect of the goddess are Maiden, Mother and the crone and these aspects are attributed to the aspects of the moon the maiden is the waxing moon, the full moon the Mother and the waning moon is the crone. Although the truth to me is that there are four aspects of the goddess and the fourth being the new or dark moon this aspect of the goddess, which is the mystery of the goddess where she can appear in any form, Maiden, Mother or Crone. This aspect is also referred to as the Dark goddesses these are goddess in rage like Demeter when she lost Persephone or Goddess whose realm is death and rebirth. In Wicca the Triple aspect Goddess is referred to as the Queen of Heaven and is seen as a complete goddess a huntress whose relationships with the horned god (her son and lover) are played out in the Wheel of the year. Some not all Wiccan will use ancient names and call the lady by name this is basically because the deity they have chosen to “Call” the lady is an archetype that embodies the values that they stand for. When this is done groups move from pure Wicca and in to a developing off shoot. Although I was trained many years ago as Wiccan the Triple goddess imagery has changed for me her aspects have changed

Seeing the Goddess in the Media Witches

samantha-stephens samantha-stephens

So let start this blog off on a good and interesting footing. Witches have not always received good press and even today the medias portray witches as hags, super powered women or loony old bats dancing naked in the moon. Many [wikipedia]pagans [/wikipedia] get irate when they see these images and see them as a personal attack on themselves and forget to see them as just a bit of entertainment. Not one of the shows / documentaries I have every seen has ever made me feel like what I believe in is wrong in most cases I really enjoy them. I do have one pet peeve and that is documentaries if I happen to be watching them with non-pagan friends as I feel that I have to apologise and have to explain what the editing has left out. But things like [wikipedia]Charmed [/wikipedia], [wikipedia] Eastwick [/wikipedia] and the [wikipedia]Wizard of Oz [/wikipedia] etc in fact I often find them sources of inspiration for [wikipedia]spell [/wikipedia] or [wikipedia]ritual. [/wikipedia] So let look at the media view and how I see it:- The hag witch like [wikipedia]grotbags [/wikipedia], the [wikipedia]wicked witch of the west [/wikipedia], [wikipedia]witchiepoo [/wikipedia] which when we look truly at the aspect of the goddess as the [wikipedia]crone [/wikipedia] haggard by age out cast wise and cruel very much like the hag witches on TV, The supper power uber witch like willow, the charmed sisters, [wikipedia]Samantha Stevens [/wikipedia] look closely and you will see the mother aspect in each of the caring, protective, loving and

The Blot

The Blot is the most common ritual within Asatru. In its simplest form a blot is making a sacrifice to the Gods. In the old days this was done by feasting on an animal consecrated to the Gods and then slaughtered. (The word blot itself is related to the Norse words for “blood” and “sacrifice.”) As we are no longer farmers and our needs are simpler today, the most common blot is an offering of mead or other alcoholic beverage to the deities. Many modern folk will be suspicious of a ritual such as this. Rituals such as the blot have been falsely interpreted by post-Pagan sources in order to denigrate the ritual or trivialize it. The most common myth about ritual sacrifice is that one is buying off a deity e.g. one throws a virgin into the Volcano so it won’t erupt. Nothing could be further from the truth. In Asatru it is believed that we are not only the worshippers of the Gods but that we are physically related to them. The Eddas tell of a God, Rig, who went to various farmsteads and fathered the human race so we are physically kin to the Gods. On a more esoteric level, humankind is gifted with “ond” or the gift of ecstasy. Ond is a force that is of the Gods. It is everything that makes humans different from the other creatures of the world. As creatures with this gift, we are immediately connected to the Gods, we are part of their tribe, their
