The Initiation Ritual Into the Mystery Cult of Bill the Cat

bill bill

Sometime we can take ourselves a little to seriously and sometime we have to remind ourselves that as pagans, witches, Wiccan and druids etc spend our life in the service of a happy god and goddess who themselves enjoy laughter, fun and play. Every time I got to serious I always remember this ritual. I first perform this after a long period of issues with coven members, which resulted in members being removed from the circle and coven. After all the stress and silliness involved the group need to do something fun and as a way of healing the group I can remember Janet and steward Farrar mention this ritual as the where both high priest of the order of bill the cat so after finding the ritual wrote by Lady Orenda and Lady Nightwind it was performed by the coven. Not saying that the ritual will bring any spiritual insights or wisdom but it will give you a good laugh and it a bit of fun so enjoy and join the order of bill the cat *CIRCLE SETUP* Bill the Cat altar in the center of the circle or near fire pit. At the west place a partially full bottle or can of beer (the worst you can find, enough to anoint your initiates). At the north place an ashtray filled with sand. You Might be Giving Pagans a Bad Name If

real-witch real-witch

You Might be Giving Pagans a Bad Name If… You insist that your boss call you “Rowan Starchild” because otherwise you’d sue for religious harassment. (Score double for this if you don’t let that patronizing dastard call you “Mr. or Ms. Starchild.”) You request Samhain, Beltaine, and Yule off and then gripe about working Christmas. You expect your employer to exempt you from the random drug testing because of your religion. You think the number of Wiccan books you own is far more important than the number you have read, regardless of the fact that most of your books are for beginners. You’ve won an argument by referencing “Drawing Down the Moon,” knowing darned good and well they haven’t read it either. You said it was bigotry when they didn’t let you do that ritual in front of city hall. It had nothing to do with the skyclad bit. You picketed The Craft and Hocus Pocus, but thought that the losers who picketed The Last Temptation of Christ needed to get lives. You’ve ever had to go along with someone’s ludicrous story because it was twice as likely to be true than most of the nonsense you spout. You complain about how much the Native Americans copied from Eclectic Wiccan Rites. You’ve ever referenced the Great Rite in a pick-up line. Someone has had to point out to you that you do not enter a circle “in perfect love and perfect lust.” (Score double if you argued the point.) You claim yourself as a witch

Losing sight of the path

pagan path pagan path

A solitary pagan path can be one of the most difficult paths to follow and you can often find yourself with out warning resting along the way. As with all things in a pagans life it all about the ebbs and flows the circle of the year. With this there come your own natural ebbs and flows there are times when everything flows perfect your home life, work life and health all seem to be working in perfect harmony and your spiritual life just fits in perfectly. But there are times when one or more of these life aspects fall out of harmony sometime causing major problems with your life and your health. When these aspects fall out of balance that happen for a reason. They cause us to spend more time focusing on our lives in greater detail. These times can affect us greatly and our spiritual selves can take a back seat or we can over rely on them to see us through. When we are in a group our group members can help support us, or offer advice cast spells to assist us, ritual can be created to help us. But the solitary does not have that luxury – the solitary is never truly alone thou they do have friends in the craft that will do workings for them and support them. The solitary witch or pagan has chosen a path which relies of a personal understanding of the divine and their place within the structure life, the universe and they understand

Queen Reina Sigrith

Throughout pagan history there have been those historical pagans who battle to keep the old gods alive. These mortals held the old god higher and equal to any other god many so devoted they gave their lives becoming martyrs to the cause. One such hero is the great Queen Reina Sigrith widow of Rey Erik the victorious one of Sweden now there is no reason sited why today the 9th Nov is associates Queen Reina Sigrith of Sweden many conclude that it is her wedding day that was to be to Olaf the Lawbreaker. But there is no conclusive prove why it just is. The 9th Nov the day of Queen Reina Sigrith of Sweden is celebrated in many Norse Heathen traditions. The legend goes – When Olaf the Lawbreaker had been king of Norway for three years, he asked Queen Sigrith of Sweden to marry him. She agreed, but when he insisted that she give up her ancestral Gods Sigrith replied, I do not mean to abandon the faith I have led, and my kinsmen before me. Nor shall I object to your belief in the god you prefer. As usual Heathen tolerance was met with kristjan imprecations and a blow to the face (she struck it with a glove and she left). The wedding was off – depriving Olaf of political power that could have sped the christianisation of Scandinavia. As it were, history tells us that the Heathens held on for over 300 more years in the Northlands. Hail Sigrith, defender of

Stand Up and Be Counted

With the announcement From the MoD that there are 100 pagans and 30 Wiccan’s or Druids in the British Armed Forces. Many Pagan groups are saying that this number is does not truly reflect that actual number of Pagans in the armed forces. Phil Ryder of the British Druid Network said there are likely more pagans in the armed forces than the figures indicate. “Druids and followers of Wicca tend not to publicize their beliefs for fear of discrimination. In some areas it’s seen as odd,” he said. It amazes me that today we are still ashamed of whom we are, and that are afraid of repercussions for being true to ourselves. I have done it myself put religion nil or just spiritual for the fear of being seen as wacky. I have also felt the pressure of working in a Christian organisation each and everyday someone trying to make me believe in Jesus Christ sad thing is I think he was a good guy Circle of 13 and performed magick you tell me who has the right view? So why do we hide our pagan selves are we really ashamed of what we believe or live in fear of what others may do. I think the true reason is that we don’t have any public role models and we are viewed in the media very badly and often linked with Devil Worship. School children are still taught that witches are evil or good, not humans practicing a religion. It about time we changed the

Paganism in the schools

paganbarbi paganbarbi

As I do every morning I wrack my brains for something to write about, sometime it easy and other times it hard. As I was flicking through my notes, Books of shadows and book on Wiccan and other pagan paths nothing came to mind until I looked back at a issues of a magazine I used to produce for one of my groups which had more humour than wisdom which is what we all need some times. I came across A letter from a teacher to pagan parents which got me thinking about children and paganism I will admit that I am the least qualified to talk on this subject one because I do not have any children of my own and I feel it would be wrong of me to suggest others should bring up their children. I know that many pagan groups have rules about children at rituals. Some groups believe that children should not be involved, some believe that children should be partially involved and others believe that children should be involved. I can understand why many pagans are fearful of involving children in their ritual. The idea of witchcraft still conjures the idea of devil worship and Satanism, among many professional people for example Child services. The biggest problem we have as a community is lack of education. Although this has got better over the years. How many children come home to their parents and say, we learned about paganism and Wicca at school today. Not very many I think. As

Symbols, Symbols everywhere

Necronomicon_Symbols Necronomicon_Symbols

In paganism we have so many symbols that we use some are just for decoration or warn as symbols of or beliefs such as pentagrams right through to angel names in the form of sigils, which are used to invoke higher spiritual beings. Many of the pagan symbols have been adopted by many of the newer religions as symbols of the anti god or devil and in the past have been used to identify and persecute pagans mostly women. As a witch I have learned that symbols come in many forms and guises these symbols can be mundane in the sense that that could be a repeated theme that catches my eye when watching TV, or symbols in dreams / tarot cards etc these symbols can be visual or verbal and require meditation to uncover the meaning. These symbols can be very slight and can be ignored as coincidence or only get noticed in retrospect. Whilst other symbols are passed down through history or adapted by neo pagan paths as part of a reconstruction of a long forgotten history as symbols of their faith or belief.  The major problem with symbols is that they are personal and with that comes a unique meaning for pagans an Inverted pentagram will inspire images of the god of the woods, the earthly realm and masculine energy while a Christian will scream devil worship same goes for the Swastika Hindu’s and Buddhist’s see it as a religious symbol but the rest of the world identifies it with the Nazi

Its not Faith Its knowing

multifaith multifaith

For myself and I will assume many other pagans Faith is not something we have in life like most religious people, we do not live our life believing that some supernatural all power being is guiding our destiny. We know that we are the Masters and Mistress of our own lives our choices are our own and we take that responsibility square on and face what is coming to us. We seek guidance from our gods and goddess, which can come in the form of ideas, dreams, symbols, visions and advice from friends, which we are left to interpret. All pagans have their fears and doubts we are not immune to human emotions we just have learned to listen to the quite voice inside that says that you’re on the right path and many of us have learnt a lesson or 2 by ignoring it. This inner voice is often called a conscious, intuition, the inner voice and subconscious. I prefer to call it intuition since someone describes intuition as the Inner Tutor. Communicating with the inner tutor happens as part of the normal psychological behaviour of us humans. It can be an inner monologue with oneself, a dialogue with your higher self or even instinct (Gut Instinct). But we are all capable of doing it and many do it at time when they need guidance. For me I believe that we are three in one like the goddess and god, a physical form (our bodies) a spiritual form (astral self / higher self /
