Spells: Healing Spells

witch spells 150x1507 Spells: Healing SpellsTo help hurry along a person’s recovery from an illness, write their name on a human-shaped candle (based on gender). While anointing it with myrrh or mint oil, visualize healing energy in the form of white light, flowing from your fingers into the candle. Recite:

“In the divine name of the Goddess

who breathes life into us all

I consecrate and charge this candle

as a magickal tool for healing.”

Place the charged candle on top of a photograph of the sick person, and then light the wick. As the candle burns down, concentrate on the person, willing them to be healthy, and chant this incantation:

“Magick mend and candle burn,

sickness end; good health return.”

Occult Paganism

Necronomicon Symbols 150x150 Occult PaganismThe year 2000, the new millennium, the bright new age of enlightenment, all brought a massive up-surge of information on all things Pagan, books by the score, mail order companies, distance learning courses, classes, and people claiming direct descent from ancient witches /druids /shamans etc.

The media always so fast to demonise anything pagan, had a field day! People from all walks of life flocked to paganism, and our numbers rocketed. A bright new era of inter-faith understanding happened over-night and we all lived happily ever after! But hang on!

True, with pagans now afforded legal rights as people of other faiths are, there has been progress – and I am sincerely, respectfully grateful to all those who fought long and hard to help to give us protection. But has it all sort of, well, backfired?

True, we see less of the hysteria including sensational press coverage of anyone who wares black and a pentacle and has tattoo being labelled a ‘Devil Worshipper’. In fact the media seems to be leaving us alone , even giving us positive coverage! Result! (Even if it’s possibly more about now having the aforementioned legal right, than a sudden sense of goodwill!). My Concern is about the possible dumbing down of our faith. I’m worried not just about my own pagan path, but all paths.

You see all those books – and lets be honest, the majority are crass, blatant rip offs of the ‘lets cash in quick’ type, which are being used by people to teach themselves (and others) the ‘correct way’ or what purports to be the real deal.

Fine, Okay. I know that any faith needs to meet the needs of the people as and when those needs change and evolve – or it becomes distant and slowly dies, so I am not protesting (too much) about knowledge being, er, interpretive. We’ve all probably read a score of naff American imports which all seem to say the same thing over and over again with out any true spiritual input.

These book are aimed at the fluffy bunny pagan you can say that it harmless to see a teenage girl reading “Teenage Girlie Witch spell craft book vol 3” – but I say it’s a waste of potential, Kids reading sugary so called spell books will try the spells contained with in find out they don’t work will lose heart and quit.

But what if said teenager found an honest, open account of what paganism actually is, the ethics, values and morals? What if they were then inspired to explore paganism, even attend a moot and speak with like-minded people?

This raises another question, fine, society is now more aware of pagans and the reality of who we are and the things we actually do –but at what cost? Altering rituals to be more acceptable to non-pagan audiences, the ‘softening’ of rites to be more conductive to interfaith movement, the merging of paths to mix elements of both into something that ends up being neither. These in my option are a problem.

Could it be argued that legal acceptance of paganism and it’s apparent need to become seen as safe and approachable is in fact sowing the seeds of destruction.

The earliest Christian missionaries here in Briton reported back the native populations spiritual beliefs and practices, the early church then slowly integrated Christian beliefs and practises alongside – and then slowly dropped the native stuff. The ancients were absorbed. My fear is that recent, apparent, acceptance is the beginning of a similar process – albeit one that may take decades or longer.

Occult means ‘hidden’ and I feel that we, as pagans, would do well to remember our history and ensure our rituals, rites and practices are kept safe and hidden from the fluffy bunnies and the more commercially – driven folk. If an individual is called to the ancient ways then they will find their way to a teacher eventually, regardless of how they start their journey.

I’m aware that there is no one answers to the questions raised here and I must admit that I have not only been tempted by and bought fluffy bunny pagan stuff in mail order catalogues myself! However we owe it to our faith to strive to keep our inner practices ‘occult’ as only in that way can we ensure they survive for the next generation.

The Pentagram

The pentagram a simple symbol but one that has it roots in history and many religious paths. The pentagram has strong links to black magic, witchcraft and rock music,. The pentagram is a symbol of Unity, the goddess (the orbit of venus produces a five pointed star), the four elements and spirit, the five Chinese elements, the God, and the five wounds of Christ, many others.
The pentagram has be linked to magicks since the mid 19th century but has historical information dating back 3000bc to Sumerian times where it was used as a pictogram for the word “UB” meaning “corner, angle, nook; a small room, cavity, hole; pitfall. You can logically see the reason why the pentagram is used in magicks the idea of creating “a small room” in which magicks where to be preformed by drawing a symbol is still used today in many neopagan and wiccan paths.
The symbol of the pentagram has been adopted as a religious symbol by Wicca’s and some other pagan paths, in the same way Christians adopted the cross. Most wiccan’s and neo pagans will have pentagram rings, pentagram charms, pentagram pendants, pentagram earrings even pentagrams on the books of shadows and tarot boxes they will have them everywhere.
I am not sure that this over exposure to the pentagram has lessened the power of the symbol but it no longer inspires the fear and aw it used to, in days past wearing a pentagram openly was a badge of honour a sense of pride in your beliefs. Nowadays everyone has them in the jewellery box.
The pentagram as a magickal symbol itself is not good or bad it how its used and it has many uses apart from pagan jewellery. The first this to look at is which what you draw it right side up or upside down the easiest way to remember which way to draw one is to remember point up for spiritual endeavours point down for earthly matters.
A higher purpose – spiritual
These are magick that required direct spiritual begins for celebration, paying respect to the spirits and deities
For earthly matters
These are magicks that are for personal benefit rather than spiritual enlightenment.
The upside down pentagram has had a long association with negative magicks and the Devil from the general public and I am not saying that upside down pentagrams are not used for darker magicks outside a spiritual pagan path but within the pagan paths we do not pay the upside down pentagram any real interest.
But the upside down pentagram can and should be used to descend into ones self with the help of the dark god / goddesses to find understanding with in our self we are a result of our actions and those who actions have change and developed us.(ritual to follow)
In the pagan paths the pentagram is drawn in one complete motion and depending on which type of pentagram your drawing depends on your start position. Now it does not matter how you use your pentagram just remember that it is more than just a jewellery symbol but a magickal tool to help you connect with higher forms give it some respect when your drawing it out.

Don’t start 2011 off on the wrong foot

casting a spell 150x150 Don’t start 2011 off on the wrong footEach year at this time we look at our bank statements and our lives and start to make plans to improve them. The main problem is we try to do so much so quickly that we set ourselves up for failure.

How many of us have made New Years resolutions we such big hopes of success, giving up smoking, going to the gym, losing weight etc. we make these resolutions in the hope that our lives will improve. We tend to focus on our failings or our negative aspects rather than our successes or our positive aspects.

When we focus on our negatives we look in to a deep dark pit “the abyss” which has a way of making us focus on our inner demons but as Friedrich Neitzsche said “Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”

The problem with trying to change our negative aspects is that our focus is on the surface issues rather than the deeper root cause of the problems. Each of our bad habits has a deeper cause, which can take years of therapy to resolve. The issue is when we attempt to fix our flaws we tend to focus on the flaw not the cause.

This happen not just in our daily lives but also in our magickal working when someone is sick we try to cure the illness or bring relief often forgetting that the illness is only a symptom of a deeper issue.

Our flaws are symptoms of deeper issues, and only by dealing with the root issues can we truly change the surface flaws successfully. By focusing on the symptom (smoking, lack of exercise, over eating etc.) we don’t deal with the root cause, which causes us to fail in the end.

Our flaws are like weeds in the gardens of our lives unless you kill the root then the weeds will grow back stronger and stronger. So when we are truly ready to tackle our flaws they are much harder to destroy.

For those that have chosen to life a magical life whether that Wiccan, Pagan, Witch or any other path we have chosen to live a life that is always growing developing and changing outwardly and inwardly until we have learnt to understand ourselves and the world around us.

We always have the option to cast a spell to help us but that is cheating true change comes from within and not from without. The use of magicks can be just as addictive as any drug.

Magick is a gift but we can become very reliant on it causing us to –

1 forgetting to deal with the root cause of problems and only dealing with the symptoms

2 believe that we are powerful enough to change the natural order of the world to our will

3 and worst of all we know what is best.

Now as we stand on the edge of 2010 and 2011 preparing to make our resolutions take some time to think about what you would like to change about yourself and follow this short ritual

Set up altar
1 candle colour to suit goal and 1 brown one
Needle or scribe to write on candle

Open the circle as normal

Scribe on to coloured candle what you want to change and light and say

I want change
I desire Change
Help me find the way to succeed in making a lasting change.

Now quietly think about the thing you wanted to change when you first started doing or not doing it. What where the reasons you started.

Now scribe all the reasons why you do or not do the thing you want to change on the brown candle. Place the candle in front of you and close your eyes.

Use your normal process for visualisation and see your self, standing in a pretty garden look at all the flowers and plants and see the beauty.

Walk around and look closely at the flowers and plants and the lawn and you will see that it not as perfect as it first seemed the small weeds and moss in the grass, the weeds tucked in between the flowers and bushes. Keep walking around until you find a weed that symbolises the thing you want to change. You will know which one kneel down in front of the weed and start to dig it out with your hands.

Insure that you get every root and see the words you have wrote on the candle on the roots place the roots and soil in a pile before you. Shape into a candle shape focus on candle shape and make it real and pick it up (pick up real candle) and hold it in your hands and say.

The prescription drugs online without a prescription roots of my flaw, is now in my hands and I chose to remove this from my life.

Slowly come out of you visualization still holding the candle and place candle on the altar and light saying-

I have the root cause I know why I (do / don’t)_________ now I choose to change the root cause not the symptom (light the candle) the root will now burn away and as it does the symptom will fade and I will be free of this problem.

End ritual as normal and leave both candles to burn always

NB only by thinking of the cause of your failing can you truly face them and defeat them

Flying Ointment

real witch 150x150 Flying OintmentNote: The notorious “Witches Flying Ointment,” a dangerous herbal concoction producing psychedelic effects, was said to be used by Witches in the Middle Ages.

It consisted mainly of parsley, hemlock, water of aconite, poplar leaves, soot, bat’s blood, deadly nightshade (or belladonna), Henbane and Hashish. (Of course, Witches didn’t really fly; however, the ointment did induce incredible hallucinations, psychic visions and astral projections.)

The following is a modern Witch’s flying ointment recipe. It is safer and much easier to use:

Items: 1/4 cup lard – 1/2 tsp clove oil – 1 tsp chimney soot – 1/4 tsp dried cinquefoil 1/4 tsp dried mugwort – 1/4 tsp dried thistle – 1/4 dried vervain – 1/2 tsp benzoin tincture

Ritual: Using a mortar and pestle, crush the dried herbs until almost powdered. In a small cauldron or saucepan, heat the lard over a low flame until it is melted completely. Add the herbs, the clove oil and chimney soot to the lard base and mix well. Add the benzoin as a natural preservative, stir together clockwise and then simmer for ten to fifteen minutes. Strain it through cheesecloth into a small heat resistant container and then allow it to cool. Store it in your refrigerator or in a cool dark place until it is ready to be used. On a night of the Full Moon, anoint your temples and Third Eye with a small amount of the flying ointment prior to astral projection or dream magick.

NOTE: For external use only!

Sex, sexuality and magick

SexSpells SexSpell 175x3002 Sex, sexuality and magickThe god is the symbol of male potency he is often portrayed a horned figure his symbols are the male penis erect, the woods horned animals such as the stag, the Athame and the sword. While the goddess is the symbol for the feminine mysteries and her symbols are the vagina, the cup and the cauldron.

In the Wiccan tradition groups are normally male / female, male / female with the group being head by a High Priest and Priestess, and one of the most important rituals in Wicca is the Great Rite. During this rite, which celebrates the union of the God and Goddess. The High Priest will assume the part of the God and the Priestess will assume the role of the goddess.

The God aspect in ritual is the Goddess’s consult and their union is played out in the Great Rite in some groups this ritual is acted out and in other groups the rite is a full or partial sexual act between the high priest and priestess. Sex is something pagans and Wiccan’s treat as sacred and is always done in great reverence and where the rite is physically performed a couple in a relationship that are shielded from the group or they withdraw and return after the act.

Although pagan enjoy sex … a lot! it is sacred act to us in magicks and in life and would never, rape, abuse children or have sex with animals. All pagans will agree to very basic ethical rules when it comes to sex.

  1. Sexual partners must be of legal age.
  2. Sexual partners must consent and be a willing participant.
  3. Sexual partners must be of the same species.
  4. All acts of sex are gifts from the goddess and should be enjoyed not endured.
  5. Homosexuality is normal many of the gods are gay or enjoy same sex relations.
  6. Sex should never invoke fear, pain or distress

Wiccan and pagan rituals contain a lot of sexual symbology the Athame being plunged in to a Chalice is a representation of intercourse. Wiccan’s and pagans believe that sex energy is very powerful and potent and will often use sex in spell casting. The basic idea is that the rhythm of sex raises energy to climax when it is release just like building a cone of power.

Single people, couples or groups can preform sex magicks and there are many books on the subject of sex magick. Sex magicks should only be preformed by willing and knowing partners as it one of the most sacred act a Wiccan or pagan can perform.

Spells: Healing a Friend or Relative

witch spells 150x1502 Spells: Healing a Friend or RelativePurple paper

White yarn or string

A pair scissors

Fresh violets (whole, with stems)

Black pen

A purple candle

A small vase or holder (for flowers)

This spell is for healing a friend or family member. It is best done when the moon is full, but you can do it whenever you feel it necessary.

Light the candle and fill the small vase with water. Place the freshly cut violets in the little vase and say a chant, focusing on the well-being of the person and the healing of their ailment.

Cut a heart out of the purple and write the name of the person on one side, and a short but heartfelt “Get Well!” message on the other side. Poke a small hole in the top right side of the heart and thread the white string through it, tie it, and attach it to the vase.

Give the little vase of violets to the target person and await their recovery.
