Where Magick come to life

Signs along the path

Pentagram2 150x150 Signs along the pathWe all are aware of signs and symbols and as pagans Wiccan’s druids etc we are very used to interpreting signs in tarot, tea leafs, crystal ball etc. But do we pay attention to the signs in our lives if like me probably not as much I should.

No Matter what your belief system is we can all agree that we are on a journey which one of the major signs on this journey is death it is our destination but not the end of the journey.

Along this journey their are mile stone in the forms of Birthdays, Anniversaries, Religious Festivals etc that mark off the miles of journey some people have very short journeys whiles other spend some may say far to long on their journey.

If you think of the journey of life as car and driver (the soul being the driver and the car being the body) the driver get in the car and drive till the first mile stone “Birth” Then continues along until the car crashes and is wrote off or until it is so knackered I will not drive any more “Death”. Along this journey there are lots of signs warning signs, diversions and places of interest. Along the way we do stop or get caught in traffic.

For me one of the biggest traffic hold ups for me is getting stuck in jobs I don’t enjoy when applied to the journey they have the same effect as the driver sitting in a traffic jam on a hot day. These traffic jams come in many forms for example being in the wrong relationship, being ill, being unemployed anything that makes you feel like your not moving anywhere stuck or depressed.

There are also ways that your journey can be speed up Just like driving a car these things are things you should not really do! Theirs the “over the fields in a straight line” heading straight for death deliberately suicide get you to the end of this stage of the journey quickly but you would not have learn enough to continue your journey properly and your have your licence revoked and be false to learn to drive from the start very karmic and the “idiot boy racer” and we have all seen this idiot on the road racing along taking risks putting other in harms way, in life these are the people that take drugs ,have risky sex, don’t take care of themselves, the risk takers in banking these drivers although “boy racers” can grow up and continue driving along they of have very battered cars with bits missing or with replacement parts and are responsible for writing of a few cars along the way.

So when living your life journey enjoy your journey don’t drive to fast as you can miss the signs along the way or you will have to turn around and come back on your self to complete your journey.

Now this come to a big question is life a series of random events or is it destined? for me I think of it as a mix of both. My personal belief about the after life is firstly we are all part of the divine energy of the universe The God and Goddess in union and we have become separated from the true oneness so we seek knowledge on how to return to the divine.

We do this by choosing a form to be born into a form that is designed to become one with the divine but at the moment of birth we forget our purpose and have to learn to be ourselves but we do leave ourselves clues and with the goddess’s help we find them in order, and we do but we don’t always use them or put them off. So they get moved further along our journey so we can complete them.

So how do you get to know what sign you should follow in life?

Firstly start listening to the inner voice not the big shouting voice but the quite one behind all the noise let that be your guide, you will need to learn to quieten the loud voice.

Learn to look at your surroundings with better eyes smile at people and say morning to people stop and chat and at the end of the day go over your day what point where important write it all down including what the weather was like what was the moon phase any dreams etc then every few weeks read it over to see if there is any common symbols. Once you can see them you can change direction if you do this for long enough (several years) you can see bigger patters.

As part of your own personal development you would already be keeping some form of notes on your daily life it is important to contain as much detail about your personal life as it is to record your magickal workings. And reread it often!

Tarot Cards

deck of tarot cards 150x150 Tarot CardsTheir has been much wrote on the subject of tarot and their are a million and one books on tarot cards their history, uses and meanings. Although Tarot have a mystical use they where created as a game like the Ouija board. In an attempt to mystify the tarot may stories of the origins have arisen about the origins of tarot, including that they are meant to be from ancient Egypt or brought to Europe by Gypsies. The fact is the tarot originated in northern Italy early in the 15th century (1420-1440). There is no evidence for it originating in any other time or place. Or that modern set of playing cards evolved from Tarot the fact is that tarot evolved from the Islamic Mamluk cards of the day. Tarot increases the pack from 52 to 78 with the introduction of the queen and the trump cards.

Originally Tarot cards where called carte da trionfi (cards of the triumphs). And only changed to tarocchi about one hundred years after their invention to differentiate themselves from a new game of trumps which had become fashionable played with ordinary playing cards. The origins of this new name are unknown for sure but could come from German word tarock, or the French word tarot.

The use of tarot cards as a tool for divination and magicks has been around since 1487 and even may be before, since the card where originally created during the Italian Renaissances a time when Hermeticism, astrology, Neoplatonism, Pythagorean philosophy where all on the rise they may have had some hidden uses which still to this day remain unknown. But is only in the1790s with Etteilla’s deck we find the tarot card design being modified specifically to reflect divinatory and esoteric meanings.

It was Etteilla who split the tarot deck in to two parts the Arcana’s:-

The Major Arcane (greater secrets), or trump cards, consists of 22 cards without suits: The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, and The World.

The Minor Arcana (lesser secrets) consists of 56 cards, divided into four suits of 14 cards each; ten numbered cards and four court cards. The court cards are the King, Queen, Knight and Page/Jack, in each of the four tarot suits. The traditional Italian tarot suits are swords, batons/wands, coins and cups; in modern tarot decks, however, the batons suit is often called wands, rods or staves, while the coins suit is often called pentacles or disks. This two packs in one version of the Tarot card remains today.

Since the Etteilla deck was created many other packs of tarot have been created purely for divination the most famous is the Waite-Smith or Rider Waite Tarot this was the only readily available pack on the market in the US for sometime.

Many famous occultists have produce Tarot cards which are not just for divination but also are used for meditation, personal and spiritual development as well as learning magickal arts and formula some of which no longer are identified as tarot but more as oracle, angel or even fortune cards.

The major differences with all of these pack of tarot is the symbology and imagery the meaning stay much the same as the original tarot buy have been adjusted to meet the imagery and mythology behind the pack an example is the brilliant Arthurian Tarot By John & Caitlin Matthews which uses the magic of the legends, history and traditions from the Celto-Arthurian legends, along with the four Hallows of the quest for spiritual wholeness, the Hallows being the suits.

But not only has the tarot been designed to connect with mystical forces many of the newer cards have been design to understand personal situation and relationship needs such as the Gay Tarot which uses universal symbol of relationships, the eternal yin and yang, is represented here by reflections and situations from the experience and identity of gay men. This is a means of understanding and introspection for those who are not afraid of diversity.

Since tarot cards are so widely available and a known tool of divination many people will read the tarot for fun or for profit and it seems that everyone know someone who reads the cards and with the rise of teach your self tarot books many more people are getting interested and learning to read tarot by rote and never connecting to the inner mysteries of the cards.

Tarot MacMorgan Spread pt1

deck of tarot cards 150x1504 Tarot MacMorgan Spread pt1Tarot is a method of introspection based on the interpretation of several cards placed in any number of positions and orders. While Tarot is used by many practicing pagans , it is not inherently pagan. It has also been used by psychologists and teachers of many and varied religions. Tarot is used several different ways based on several different decks, but the spread I’ve given here is the MacMorgan Spread a common version of reading Tarot.
I am including the meanings of the major Arcana  but I have chosen to leave out the meanings and symbolisation if the minor Arcana for the main reason That Tarot are personal linked the owner of the cards and much of the symbolism is personal and introspective. It is common for many pagans and tarot readers to use their cards as a source of meditations to gain insights on their own personal and spiritual development.

In the MacMorgan spread a blank card is left in the Tarot deck this is used to identify any areas from the reading, which are either not available at the time of the tarot reading or that the person receiving the reading is not ready or is unwilling to receive the information at this time.

In the MacMorgan Tarot spread all cards are placed upright, their are no reverse meaning in this tarot spread.

The MacMorgan Spread uses thirteen cards, and is laid out in the following order:

1. This card is the Self or the Significator. This represents the total person, the combination of environment, attitude and everything that combines to form a being.

2. This represents the Will, which is the force or energy of a person that which fuels the desires and needs a person has.

3,4: Four is covered by three without turning it over until after three is described. Three represents that which seems ideal to you at this time. Four is the Hidden Ideal, that which your Will hides from you.

5,6 Six is covered as four, above. Five is your Force, your Strength, the skills you have which you may perceive. Six is the Hidden Strength.

7. This is your present environment, the forces at work right now in your Universe.

8. This is the approaching environment, the forces beginning to show themselves.

9. This is one of two forces developing in the future, usually a force which underlies the other, the force causing the next to come into play.

10. This is the other of these forces, and potentially a problem caused by the first.

11. This is a hazard, from the past, present or immediate future that will prevent you from achieving your goal.

12. This is the outcome of your attempt if the current situations remain unchanged.

13. This is the outcome if you make a situational change. Optional: Progression spread: after reading, take 12 and 13 and reshuffle. Lay 12 to the left and draw five cards, laying them, slightly overlapping, left to right. End with card 13. The cards

Between represent the steps from 12 to 13.

ALL CARDS ARE PLACED UPRIGHT THERE IS NO “REVERSED”

If possible, leave a blank card in the deck. This means “no information available at this time”

Notes:

THE SELF AND THE WILL:

-Trumps (cards 0-21) in the self (1) position: This represents an intense emotional attachment to the goal in question, or intense feelings.

-When the Self and Will positions both have Trumps, it represents strong internal forces. –When only the Self bears a Trump it indicates a mind/Will ruled by the Physical needs of the body.

-When only the Will bears a trump it represents a body ruled by wants and non-physical needs.

-Wands in one, Cups in the other or Swords in one, Pentacles in the other: The Will and the Self are diametrically opposed and the energy expended (and hazards expressed at this time) should be channeled towards harmony.

-Magician or High Priestess in one, Ace in the other: An element runs the risk of disturbing your harmony.

-Magician and High Priestess Together: Major mystical events coming into play, or ruling one’s life.

-Above, Fool in card 13 or twelve: This is the spread of Ascensions, greater and lesser.

-King or Queen in Will, lesser of same suit in Self: The Self is ruled by the Will, this is preferable

to the opposite, which indicates a damaged Will

-King or Queen in Will, different suit, not trump in Self: You are not serving yourself.

-Two Kings or two Queens: You are serving two outside interests, instead of aiding yourself.

-King and Queen, different suits: above, but with the potential for compromise.
