Where Magick come to life

Look Back at shadows

book 150x150 Look Back at shadowsNow that Mabon is over and we start looking to Samhain I always start by looking back over my book of shadow one to see if I set any thing in motion that as yet to manifest. These will not always be magickal things many times they are my own personal goals and aspiration.

At this stage in the year my mind focuses on Samhain and Yule probably because they are my favourite Sabbats I am not sure if it anything more than I find them much more magickal than the other Sabbats. But during this period of the year I spend much time in reflection looking at my success and my failures and those things I have been just mediocre.

The things that I am successful at will become the seeds for next years hopes and dreams. The things I fail at I look at what caused the things to fail was it my lack of skill or devotion and look for ways to insure success in future attempt and the things I have been mediocre at I look at why I did not give these things more attention.

But the fun part of all this reflection I get to review my book(s) of shadows and if fun to read some of my earlier Books of shadows seeing some of the spells and charms I picked up, some of the rubbish that I thought was so important (and at the time it was) some of the memories I wrote about people who died. Some of the insights I had that meant nothing at the time but know as I look back I can see the meaning.

I look at the ebbs and flow of my life the part of my life where my spiritual development devolved at fast pace and where I spent so much time attempting to master new skills. The dark and light times in my life and my magicks.

As I reflect I start to plan for the next year deciding how one will celebrate Samhain it easy to get stuck in a route with rituals so I don’t always do a formal ritual for Samhain some times I may do a number of small rituals throughout the and end the evening with friends in a social situation eating, drinking or partying.

I also find that during the dark half of the year my magickal urges increase and I become more spiritually orientated and creative unlike the light half where I am much less creative or magick orientated, This is a natural state to find yourself in I have friends who do not do nothing much during the Dark half of the year but soon as the spring get here they are busy little bees. Each of us are affected by the seasons some of us are children of the light and some of us are children of the dark.

Being a child of light or dark does not make you good or bad it just your natural ebb and flow for me the dark half of the year holds potential and mystery and that inspires me for others they are inspired by plants and flowers growing.

By keeping your Books of shadows and rereading them will give you an insight to yourself like any journal it a history filled with good and bad parts but it your history the better your notes the greater your insights.

And there is no better time to review your development and you go back you may find things that you did not continue or you where not ready to understand these things may inspire you to try again and succeed.

Evaluating your magickal and spiritual development is an important part of a pagan path as our paths are one of constant change and development and progression we need change in our understand, of ourselves and of our magick. We are the seekers of knowledge the seekers of truth.

Remember you are the masters and mistresses of your own destiny only when you know where you have been can you find out where you’re heading

Dragon Path Working

2012 02 06 09.56.23 150x150 Dragon Path Working While digging through some old paper work I came across this path working the strange thing about this pathworking is many year later I found my dragon ring the first time I saw it, it was to small to put on but the next time I saw it, it was a perfect fit.

Start by sitting or lying in a comfortable position and take three deep breaths.

Close your eyes and focus on your breath.

Feel yourself standing in the darkness behind your eyes. While in this place you can sense that there is something just in front of you.

As your eyes begin to adjust to the darkness you begin to see a shape beginning to come in to focus.

As you look you can see it is a pillar about chest height with a book on top as it comes in to full focus, the pillar starts to vibrate with a warm golden light illuminating the space around you and beckoning you towards the pillar.

You step closer so you can see the cover of the book – as you stare at the cover the letter A begins to form followed by a N and then Á with in a second the word Anáil appears followed by nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta. (Pronounced anal nathrak, uthvas bethud, do che-ol di-enve).

You say the words out loud Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta and the book opens and you read the words on the first page.

Once upon a time…

You turn the page, which reveals a picture of a beautiful landscape with a bright path leading into a wood area.

As you stare at this picture you begin to notice more and more.

The birds flying in the sky.

The small flowers in the grass.

The standing stones in the far distance.

The small creatures moving between the trees.

The grass under your feet and the smell of a campfire.

You realise that you are now inside the picture, you turn around and see a large doorway which leads back to the darkness behind your eyes.

Someone calls your name from the woods and you see something, which draws you to the path and the woods.

You walk along the path and into the wood.

The air becomes cooler and the smell of the campfire becomes stronger.

You sense something is behind you but your not afraid. You try to catch a glimpse of it but it’s to fast.

You continue walking until you come to a clearing with a very large rock, which has a small hole with what looks like the remains of a campfire.

You take a seat near the rock and as you sit on the ground you hear a sound, which is like a huge creature slowly breathing a soft rhythmic sound.

Not moving you try to work out from what direction the sound is coming from. The more you focus on the sound the more rhythmic and musical it becomes. It reminds you of a long forgotten song one that you can just put the words to.

Then suddenly it hit you and you sing out.

Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta.

The ground shakes to the sound of your voice.

Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta

The large rock moves and shakes transforming at the words – Anáil nathrach, orth bhais betha,do cheol déanta

You can see the rock changing it shape into 30 foot stone grey dragon with large wings.

He turns his heads to look at you smiles and says, “old magicks from one so young”.

His breath filling the air with the smell of burning wood and sulphur.

“As requested – Breath of dragon” he says he laughs realising you are not comfortable with the smell.

“I know who has guided you here” he says in his eyes you see the room and your guide reading this script. He blinks and the image vanishes.

Do you understand the words you have spoken in this place?

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

He smiles as if to pity you.

“All magicks can cure or kill and does!

Some places exist only inside the magicks!

The right words in the right place can create, in the wrong place destroy!

Do you know what you have done? he says

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“You have created one more of my kind, a new dragon”

“Can you be nurturing?

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“Can you be loving?”

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“Can you be responsible?”

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

“Place your hand on your heart and look for the name when you have found it call your dragon”

As you say the name out loud a wet nose stick in your ear and a small winged dragon climes down your arm and sits your hand.

There is a true spiritual connection between you and the dragon.

As you focus on the dragon he / she seems to melt into your hand and turns into a ring on your power finger.

A strange dragon shaped ring.

Your wonder in the ring is broken by the large dragon words.

“This little dragon is now part of you he /she will protect you and guard you in all realms, but you must return here once a month for him / her to learn and be trained as must you in the skills and magicks of the dragon.

Don’t worry I will call you in your dreams and summon you to this place. Do you agree to this?”

ANSWER HIM HONESTLY

The dragon smiles and begins to transfer back into a rock.

You look at the ring and a voice deep inside you says it’s time to take me home.

You walk back down the path through the woods back to the open door.

As you step through the door you turn around to look back but all that is there is the book and the picture. You turn the next page but its blank but soon the words You are the author of this book each time you journey to the stone dragon a page of magick will be written from your knowledge. The word vanishes and you close the book, and find yourself standing behind your eyes in the darkness you focus on your breath and slowly open your eyes and return back to yourself.

Beltane Eve

beltain2 300x199 Beltane Eve An excerpt from Beltane Eve – by Jill M Earlam / Dragonlady © 2007

As the fires of Beltane were lit on the heath, next to the forest, there were cheers and the happy sound of people enjoying themselves, eating and drinking and waiting in breathless anticipation of the God and Goddess, who would surely come to bless this Beltane celebration.

Delphi stood smiling, watching the children dance around the maypole, screaming and laughing with delight as they held the ribbons, weaving in and out of each other making that age old pattern, beginning again the dance of creation even though none of them knew what tonight would bring.

She stood at the edge of the forest, a little way from the people, who were beginning to feel the effects of the drink and the dancing and as the youngsters were taken home by their sisters old enough to celebrate the day but not quite old enough to join in the rituals, which came later.

Delphi could feel Janus calling her and slipped between the trees. It was dark within the confines of the forest but she could still see the fires burning brightly and the full moon was just visible, her beams split by the branches of the tall trees. Her heart was pounding in her chest, she could feel his presence; he was very close. She turned around as she felt his touch. He was there, standing before her in his white robe, his face hidden. As he pulled back the hood of his robe she could see he wore the silver circlet, with the blue crystal in the centre. The stone was of the deepest blue and seemed to glow brighter, matching his eyes, as he smiled gently at her. He looked like a god standing there before her; tall, long silver blonde hair and fathomless blue eyes. She felt as if she was drowning as she gazed into the depths of those eyes; it was like looking into the deepest lake and seeing your own reflection. Janus took her hand and kissed it before drawing her gently into his arms. As she felt the strength and firmness of his body against hers, through the robe he wore, she sighed with pleasure to be back in his arms.

“How I have missed you, my love.” His whispered words made her shiver with anticipated pleasure and he held her tightly.

They stood together, arms around each other totally oblivious to all that was going on just beyond the edge of the trees. He released her and she turned her face up to look at him and as she did, his lips came down to meet hers, gently at first, a feather touch barely there until her hand touched his cheek and she felt his breathing quicken. He reluctantly took his mouth off hers and spoke into her ear, “Let us go to our place, my love. I want to love you.”

As they reached the opening in the forest, as one they dropped to the floor, lying on a bed of soft mossy grass only feet away from the edge of the pool, which sparkled in the moonlight.

“I love you so much” her whispered words were muffled as once again, his lips found hers, kissing her with such passion. His fingers started to unfasten the bodice of her dress and his hands slipped inside, caressing her back. He slipped the dress off her shoulders and his lips caressed her neck, moving down to take one of her erect nipples between his lips while he gently rolled the other one between his fingers. She arched her back as he took the dress off her; his hands were hot, gently urgent as his caresses moved between her legs to stroke that mound, covered in soft dark hair. As he gently traced those lips with his fingers, she opened her legs to allow him to touch her and as his fingers found that sensitive little place, she moaned with pleasure. “You are so beautiful” he spoke quietly to her as she implored him, “let me love you”

Her hands reached up and she undid the tie on his robe. As it fell open she saw he was naked underneath and she caressed his firm body with her hands, flicking her tongue over his nipples, dropping butterfly kisses along his chest and stomach, stopping only to take hold of his manhood, her fingers caressing up and down, feeling him grow at her touch.

He was so hard and ready for her, he could bear it no longer and he gently entered her, his erect shaft finding its way inside her, their bodies becoming one as their lips met again in the sweetest kiss. Slowly and sensually they moved together, their breathing quickening as waves of desire and love washed over them.

She heard the animal come crashing through the forest. He stopped and pawed the ground; he was so near she could almost feel his breath.

She was close, so close to reaching ecstasy and felt the hardness and strength of Janus inside her as they moved as one, his breathing fast and shallow, whispering words of love in her ear. She felt him tense, his body arching as he cried out her name releasing his seed inside her and as she held his shuddering body she felt the waves of pleasure washing over her. And at that moment, although neither of them knew it, the child was conceived. Their bodies trembled with released passion and love as they lay holding each other, neither one wanting to move lest they break the spell.

The stag still watched as if hypnotised and as they looked back at him, (wondering what he was going to do), his outline wavered and before them stood Herne, tall and powerful. Before they had a chance to get to their feet and cover their nakedness, from between the trees She appeared – beautiful in her flowing blue gown, dark hair falling down past her waist with a silver triple moon circlet on her forehead. She smiled at them and as she went to Herne, they spoke without words. By this time Delphi and Janus were on their knees, their heads bowed towards this great god and goddess.

She spoke to them in a voice full of tenderness, “stand up my dears, do not be afraid.” They stood before Herne and the Goddess heads still bowed. She was trembling in fear because as High Priestess to the Goddess she should not be with a mortal man. Yet the Goddess was smiling at her, look on her face, which seemed almost to suggest forgiveness.

Janus threw himself at Herne’s feet in such terror crying, “Please don’t hurt her; forgive her. Punish me instead. I love her so much.” He lay prostrate on the ground, his shoulders shaking as tears coursed down his cheek. Delphi wanted to run to him, but did not dare move, until she felt the Goddess give her a little push and she looked at her and smiled, “Go to him, don’t leave him to cry alone.” Even Herne was smiling down at her as she threw herself on the floor by the side of Janus and took his face in her hands and as she saw the look of such abject sorrow on his face, her tears began to fall. They held each other, just sitting waiting for the wrath of Herne to descend on them.

Then Herne spoke, “We have been watching you for some time now and know just how long you have fought against this love you feel. We know you have not deliberately sought to deceive us and for that we will not punish you.” The Goddess spoke, saying, “We see the love and devotion you have for each other and who are we to come between you? when we both have felt that utter misery of being without the one you love. You deserve each other and of course there is now the child to think of too.”

As She spoke these words, Herne closed the gap between them and put His arms around Her and gently touched Her lips with His. The forest stirred, the Moon came out from behind a cloud and a sun flared into being, high in the cosmos.

Delphi suddenly realised just what the Goddess had said – she was with child.

“You shall be released from your Priestess duties but you may remain with the other Priestesses as long you as you wish, showing them the way and deciding who shall succeed you as High Priestess. I shall make sure all know it is my decision and all will be well. It is meant to be, the child inside you has shown me that.”

At the Goddess’s words, Delphi got to her feet and kneeled before her and took her hand. “I don’t know how to thank you. I have no words but if you can see my heart you know how I am feeling right now.” She kissed the hand of the Goddess who smiled down at her. Janus stood and bowed his head before the mighty Herne, whose voice reverberated through the forest as he spoke. “Look after her and your unborn child, there are those who will attempt to destroy what you have – do not let them. Love each other the way we love and you will survive through the ages. You shall continue as Druid and sing the songs and tell the tales of the Bards but I shall speak to your master and tell him. If you ever need us, come into the forest and call and we shall come.”

As Herne spoke these words, the Goddess came to him and slipped her hand into his and they turned and walked away through the trees, leaving Delphi and Janus.

A Random thought to a spell

binding love spell 150x150 A Random thought to a spellMagicks cannot be taught as such! Magicks are not a subject! Or a specialty of any practice! It is a way of life, you live magick, and you breathe magick! You don’t need to call on magicks like you would call an old friend over at a party. But for those that know or feel that ritual is important, as this contains your use of it. As magicks uncontrolled can cause problems!

An example of uncontrolled magicks is in the young a dream becomes a wish, a wish becomes a spell and results happen. For very young children their dreams are small normally very small, from I want food to can i have a Barbie, so have very limited negative results, but as they grow as we all do our dreams become filled with doubt reinforcing our expectations, so very few of their dreams become wishes, so less become spells.

Some of our young are very talented in magicks and learn to use their skills, which again drop off when there are in their late teens early 20’s when life’s demands become a priority. Very few of these teens go straight to a magickal life unless they are exposed to magicks through the family or friends at a young age, they will often bounce around looking for answers to questions they do not know.

But when magicks become a part of your daily life your limits are endless magicks can open you up to endless possibilities.

For example when I thought about writing this (I was and still am having a bad day due to my illness) I was lighting a fire and my eye flicked to the black candle on the mantle and within a micro second a chant began in my head – “In this fire I do see the burning of my negativity”. Within a second I thought about carving my problems on the candle. I must make a note here I have been working on some healing spells for my condition if only to make myself better and before any one mentions personal gain they have been avoided as much as they can be.

Then as I thought well you can’t just scrape some words in to a half burn black candle that was only use to make the sconce look good and on a just lit coal fire, but also, as I thought this just Doesn’t feel right the magicks are not complete some things missing or maybe all that needed is to be open to the possibility that was all, that was required to achieve my goal!

Within a second I got the urge to write it down as I knew it needed more work, so i opened word, and began to jot my notes down, and went off to think! BTW the ritual begins the first moment you start thinking about it!!!!

Then my muse started whispering to me “share the basics” to which I thought was the basics of the chant and let others grab what they liked from our facebook page! so I started with a title “A Random thought to a spell” and i started to write… Not what I expected so in hindsight would like to have change the title but muse says NO!

Here are my original note:-

Black candle

Fire

Right what you see as negative

Throw in to fire and chant

In this fire I do see the burning of my negativity

Yule

Yule card YuleYule is the Old English term for the winter Solstice, which fall anywhere between the 19th and 23rd December. This is a major pagan festival for those in the northern hemisphere who follow the old religions (pre Christianity). The Old English word Geola (pronounce Yula) means yoke of the year, the balance point across the lowest ebb of sunlight.

Now the longest night and the shortest day. The sun is at it lowest point in the sky at midday, lower than at any other time of the year, it also rises and sets at the most southerly points of the year.

Yule is a festival of hope and renewal, the time when the Sun Child is reborn and we see a return of all life through the love of the gods. The Sun has been in decline since the summer solstice, but now begins to regain its strength. Now marks the end to the long winter nights, although it won’t be noticeable for a while yet! It is this regaining of strength after weakness that made the Romans call this festival Sol Invictus, “The Undefeated Sun”.

Traditionally this is the time of year that homes are decorated with symbols of eternal life; such as evergreens such as Holly, Ivy, Rosemary, Bay, Laurel, Mistletoe and of course the ancient Pagan symbol, a decorated Spruce tree.

So important was the festival to the old English that their name for December was Ærra Gĕola (going before Yule) and for January Æftera Gĕola. In the Northern tradition of Paganism (and some other paths), Yule is actually the New Year.

The symbolism of this festival is about light in darkness, warmth in coldness, hope in despair, life out of death and plenty amid dearth. A time to strengthen those family relationships, feast and make and give gift.

Yule is also know as – Midwinter, Yule, Cuidle, Alban Arthan, Winter Rite, Mothers Night, Gŵyl Galan Gaeaf (Welsh) and the Winter Solstice.

Triple Goddess and its roots in Wicca and beyond

Colored Triple Goddess 300x188 Triple Goddess and its roots in Wicca and beyondIn Wicca the Goddess is the mother the female aspect of the divine and is referred to as the goddess in triple aspect. The aspect of the goddess are Maiden, Mother and the crone and these aspects are attributed to the aspects of the moon the maiden is the waxing moon, the full moon the Mother and the waning moon is the crone.

Although the truth to me is that there are four aspects of the goddess and the fourth being the new or dark moon this aspect of the goddess, which is the mystery of the goddess where she can appear in any form, Maiden, Mother or Crone. This aspect is also referred to as the Dark goddesses these are goddess in rage like Demeter when she lost Persephone or Goddess whose realm is death and rebirth.

In Wicca the Triple aspect Goddess is referred to as the Queen of Heaven and is seen as a complete goddess a huntress whose relationships with the horned god (her son and lover) are played out in the Wheel of the year.

Some not all Wiccan will use ancient names and call the lady by name this is basically because the deity they have chosen to “Call” the lady is an archetype that embodies the values that they stand for. When this is done groups move from pure Wicca and in to a developing off shoot.

Although I was trained many years ago as Wiccan the Triple goddess imagery has changed for me her aspects have changed but she still remains the female force of the divine. I look back over many books of shadows and try to find the true Wiccan Idealist view of the goddess. But even in my notes and meditations the Lady was forming into a personal archetype.

The Triple Goddess is the archetypal Woman and her Mysteries the Maiden an Innocent young Girl filed with potential The Mother filled with child and the Procter and the crone baron but filled with knowledge.

The Triple Goddess is both a protector and a devourer she can be cruel and kind she is all women and all Goddess, as is old or young depending on here aspect she is considered to be a moon Goddess, All moon goddesses.

The origins of the Triple Goddess can be found in the writings of historian [wikipedia]Robert Graves [/wikipedia], Graves states that his Triple Goddess is the Great Goddess “in her poetic or incantatory character”, and that she has an incestuous relationship with her son, who is the God of the waxing and waning year, an idea that was to become central to initiatory Wicca.

Mabon the autumn equinox

autumn leaves 150x150 Mabon the autumn equinoxMabon – the autumn equinox is one of the eight festivals / Sabbats marked on the wheel of the year. The autumn equinox celebrates a time of balance and the harvest the name Mabon was coined by Aidan Kelly around 1970 as a reference to Mabon ap Modron, a character from Welsh mythology.

The autumn equinox fall between the 21st – 24th September the day will depend on the position of the sun. At this time of year pagans and neo pagans will either celebrate The Second Harvest Festival, Wine Harvest, Feast of Avalon, Equinozio di Autunno (Strega), Alben Elfed (Caledonii), or Cornucopia. The Teutonic name, Winter Finding, spans a period of time from the Sabbat to Oct. 15th, Winter’s Night, which is the Norse New Year.

The basic theme behind the celebration is giving thanks and preparing for winter and understand that the earth is dieing and the fields are becoming barren, Many of the myths around the Equinox are often relating to the dieing or descent in to the underworld by a deity. The Myths of Persephone , Innana and Mabon are some of the major myths related to this festival / Sabbat.

Many of the activities that take place at this time of year include wine making, collecting seeds and pods for spring planting, walks in the countryside, decorating relatives graves as well as sharing a meal with friends and family.

During Mabon some of the major symbols include wine, gourds, pinecones, acorns, grains, corn, apples, pomegranates, vines such as ivy, dried seeds, and horns of plenty. Apples are used extensively through out this celebration they are used as symbols to honour the dead.

Invocation to Mabon

autumn leaves 150x150 Invocation to Mabonon line pharmacies alt=”" width=”150″ height=”150″ />Leaves shudder,
And Blush at your Passing lord,
Remembering the days of summer,
When you , green and pollen bright.
Dancing in the warm, caressing winds
Proud and vital as the Up thrusting Oak.
But now the sword – edge of frost,
Looms from the mist.
Balancing night and day,
A blade poised at your throat,
You shudder.
And the leafs shudder with you,
You grip your hand to the branch,
Savouring that one last touch,
Then you leap spiralling through the crisp air,
As you dive upon the frost blade.
Dying the leafs,
Red with your willing sacrifice,
You rise, your lips,
Pale as the blade buried within you,
And make your way to the darkest shore
At your feet, the leafs rustle and sigh,
And shudder
And blush at your passing

Beltane Activities

maypole 150x150 Beltane ActivitiesJump the balefire. The bonfire, or need-fire, is one of the oldest Beltane traditions. When lighting the fire, use nine sacred woods from the following list: oak, apple, hawthorn, birch, elder, ash, blackthorn, grape vine, mountain ash (rowan), holly, willow, cedar, yew, and hemlock.

Ashes from the balefire can be scattered in the fields as a fertility charm. Women wishing to conceive can tie a bag of the ashes around their necks. Traditionally, cattle and other animals were driven between two fires for protection, healing, and purification. Modern pagans can ritually purify tools or other things in the balefire. Jump the dying embers of the fire for summer blessings.

Dance around the maypole.

Gather the first wild herbs of the season.

Go a-Mayin’ by going to the woods and fields to gather flowers. Take a picnic.
Wash your face in dew at sunrise on Beltane for beauty in the coming year. (Traditionally the dew from the hawthorn tree, but dew from grass and flowers will do.)
Make daisy chains and fresh flower wreaths and chaplets (head dresses) to wear and to place atop the maypole. Braid flowers in your hair. Make and wear leafy green masks to represent the Green Man who has returned.

Make a wish at the hawthorn tree, a tree associated with faeries. Place strips of cloth symbolizing your wish in the tree (the color should be appropriate to the nature of your wish, i.e. blue for health, pink or red for love, green or gold for prosperity). Take some time to attune to the tree. When you feel you have contacted its spirit, visualize your wish coming true as you hook the cloth on one of the tree’s thorns, chanting your wish. When you have finished, leave a gift for the tree.

Make love in the woods. Beltane is the time of year when the Goddess and God consummate their passions. Traditionally it is a time when lovers pledge to live together for a year and a day. At the end of the period, they may part ways if things haven’t worked out. If all has gone well, they may make plans for a handfasting at Midsummer.

Commune with the faeries.

Mark the boundaries of your circle with oatmeal, a traditional Beltane grain.

The Wheel Of The Year

wheel of the year The Wheel Of The Year The Wheel of the year is basically a calendar of the 8 festivals called Sabbats celebrated by Wiccan’s and some other pagan paths. The wheel looks like a cartwheel with 8 spokes marking the sections of the year. The wheel is in 2 sections the first is the Quarters know as “the lesser Sabbats” or “quarter days”, these quarters mark the movement of the sun through the year with the vertical spokes marking the solstices and the horizontal spokes marking the equinoxes

The second section represents the cross quarters “cross-quarter days,” “fire festivals,” or “Greater Sabbats”, these are a mix of Gaelic and Germanic festival but basically or from my understanding the cross quarters are the cycles of life and death.

The truth be told the Wiccan Wheel of the Year as been made up and in fact at the very starting of Wicca only the Cross quarters where celebrated online pharmacy without prescription it was the Bricket Wood Coven that added the quarter days basically because the wanted more meeting They did this while Gerald Gardner was away although he did not object to the additions as this brought Wicca closer to Gardner’s Long time friend Ross Nichols’s Neo druidism groups the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids.

Although this Wheel has no historical value in terms of reclaiming the Craft it is a valued addition to Wicca and in other pagan paths.

For me the wheel is a great source of meditation, understanding of life and death, a reminder of the cycles in life and most important reason of them all 8 reasons to party and celebrate the divine source. But the Wheel is more than that the symbology of the circle and it relation to the sun and moon a reminder that the wheel is eternal it has no beginning and no end.

The solar aspect of the wheel relates to the God forms of the Oak and Holly kings, twin gods sharing or battling for control The Oak King will rule the light Half of the year he is born at the winter solstice and begins his rule in spring and dies in autumn to be reborn again at the winter solstice.

Whilst the Holly King rules the dark half of the year he will take control at the death of his twin and will rule until the re-birthed Oak Kings is strong enough to control and then will step down and withdraw.

Although there are version of this story that state that the 2 twin are fighting for the favour of the goddess, I see the Holly King as a wise and caring father figure Protecting and helping his brothers and the earth he is a reminder that The God form is eternal, While the Oak king is a reminder of how fragile life is we are born grow die and are reborn with all that that entails.

The Luna Aspects of the wheel, which relate to the goddess aspect are easier to identify the wheel turns as the moon turns with midwinter being the new moon the vernal equinox the first quarter Midsummer the full moon the autumnal equinox the last quarter and back to the new moon

Now for the eight spokes each of the spokes relate to a different festival in ancient times these festivals where used to mark agricultural events such as planting and harvesting and storing food as well as the solar events of the solstices and equinoxes.

Since different pagan paths and Wiccan groups and individuals have different names and rituals on these date their no correct formula to the festivals in fact the festivals change depending on what hemisphere your in.

If we take a quick look at the festivals and how I see them I will cover them in greater detail in the future.

For me the wheel starts a Samhain (Sowain) the Celtic New Year and the Festival of the dead a time to remember friends family past and present. But it a reminder to me that at the start of any thing you will face hardship and you will need support, it also a reminder that in time passed this would be a harvest your last one for a long while and what you have will have to last if you did have enough to last you through the winter you could die. I celebrate this time by having a feast where guest bring some raw food and a meal is created from the food gathered, silly games are played and everyone has fun customers are often worn.

The Next spoke is Yule the winter solstice this to be is about the rebirth of the god and the potential that is still hidden. Since Christmas is around this time I combine the both I send Yule Cards to friends. I have my own Yule tradition that Mix the Christmas feel for the Children in my life I buy tiny presents from the pound shop wrap them up and hang them from the tree, these are what I call tree presents they are gift from the tree.

The Next is Imbolc this signifies the beginning of spring it a time of new beginnings and the beginning of planting this is about preparing the food for the year to come. I use Imbolc to plan what I am going to do in the coming year. Traditional I would find a daffodil and just meditate on the story of Persephone.

The next is the Vernal Equinox or Ostara for me this is a time for fertility rites and the creation a time of change this is also the time that the Goddess and god are reunited as lovers. This is the time where I would work closely with my partner on intimate rituals to strengthen our love and relationship.

Beltane is next this is a fire festival and has great focus on masculine energy and Sex although there are many May day rituals that are still preformed today the may pole is one of the most know, For me beltaine is a time for sacrifice and surrender it is a time for me to accept what I need to give up to achieve what I planed to achieve at Imbolc. This would be the time when I would choose to walk through the woods charging myself with the potency of the God.

Now we are at Litha or Mid Summer the point where the Goddess is swollen which the fruits of the earth the God are at his Full potential, for me it’s a time to Enjoy and celebrate a day where theirs nothing to do everything is in balance and as it should be. It for me a day where I just enjoy the goddess and god.

Then we have Lammas the first harvest it’s a time when I would go in to the garden and pick my fruits and veg I would normally prepare a meal with what has been gathered and share with friends and family. Sharing your hard work is a wonderful of honouring The God and Goddess.

And the final spoke before returning to the new year is the Autumnal equinox the final harvest so back into the garden for the last harvest and clearing the garden ready for next year again I would share this food with family and friends either as food baskets, or as a meal depending on size of harvest.

Although I have not gone into to much detail of the rituals and correspondences I will do this as in later articles.
