The Goddess Lesson Three

groups goddesses 150x150 The Goddess Lesson ThreeIn lesson three we are going to cover the Goddess.

If we can all agree on one basic statement during this section it will help in our understanding of the Goddess.

Statement:- The Goddess is the female aspect, energy of the “Divine” in manifest or archetypal form in which we find understanding.

The goddess is equal to the male aspect whether as opponent, reflection or opposite and no matter how we envisage the goddess “She” does exist.

During this lesson I am not looking to change your view it’s designed to give you a broader view of the goddess.

Throughout history the role of the Goddess has changed from the Great mother to a consult, betrayer and even demon. She has been portrayed in single form, triple form and part of pantheons. She has been given roles from creator to the great destroyer.

The Goddess has many archetypal forms and just as many names.

Now certain paths and religions either pay more attention to the goddess reducing the god aspect or pay more attention to the god aspect reducing the goddess role. Christianity (old and new testaments) has reduced the goddess in its belief structure to the lowest form of woman the betrayer, the slut, the murder, the demon with the highest accolades be the virgin mother (a title reduced from the original God barer which was thought to be wrong as this would make a woman the creator of gods) or a Saint Martyred for her beliefs.

Wicca on the other hand has place more empathise on the goddess aspect not so visibly as Christianity but the god aspect in Wicca has been subjugated to a consult.

This goes to point that when a belief structure is created the societies or creators values of a particular gender effect the position of the deities with. This is an import fact to remember as an eclectic as we create our own belief structure. So our beliefs are a physical manifestation of our own psyche I know Freud would have a field day but Jung would be happy. (Look up Jung http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Jung ).

Now every witch will sometimes fill drawn more to masculine energy than female energy and vice versa as an eclectic you will notice changes in ritual and spell work you may start doing more Drawing down the Sun or your Luna ritual over run you may also feel yourself being drawn to different deities. This is a natural state of growth for the eclectic until one day everything balances perfectly.

When the perfect balance is found you will find you work either with single deity adding opposite energy when required or working with a pantheon picking the desired archetypes when required or even a single form such as “the Creative Intelligence”

Now before we start exploring the “Goddess” it’s a good idea to write down what your idea of what the “Goddess” is, there is no right or wrong answers to this! It your personal view!

If you have a goddess that you are dedicated to write down what draws you together. Now this can be as simple as a list or short paragraph or can be as in-depth as a hymn, story or poem or if you are creative draw a picture that embodies the goddess for you.
